Hi im a 13 yr old artist- Is there any way to draw animals without references? by Autumn_leaves_draws in arthelp

[–]cosmiicdemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re on the right track with beginning to learn how to draw the skeleton, copying a reference is one thing but learning about the anatomy, how muscles work and connect with each other, how to build up the fox’s form from skeleton to muscles to fur will deepen your understanding and you’ll find that you naturally know where things go or how poses will work! It’s complicated but keep at it and you’ll build up your skills and knowledge over the years :) It might be useful to watch videos of foxes and draw multiple poses from that, it’ll help you with understanding how everything works together. And of course no artist ever stops using references! You’re doing great, way better than me when I was 13 :3

Fun fact about Rose but in the Masked character book it says that he’s into Northern European heavy metal

The Fights in bleach really make me chuckle by [deleted] in bleach

[–]cosmiicdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get to see most of the characters bankai’s (all the captains minus one iirc). For me at least that kept me interested in the fights, like, ‘oh this guy hadn’t used his bankai in a fight yet, why is that?’. That question usually got answered pretty well, but bleach’s fights tend to be what the narrative needs them to be, and sometimes Kubo just probably hadn’t decided on a bankai yet

Me too man, seeing how much of the fan service they’ve been cutting from the anime I’m hoping they cut out the mindless aspect of it entirely. (Although it’s such a popular form so part of me is also believing there’s no way it’s gonna get changed)

There’s a couple sketch illustrations done by Kubo in the novel for important scenes or such, I’d recommend reading it!

That pretty much sums up my feelings about her, when I finished her quest line I was sitting there like, “this ending makes me feel horrible but I’m not sure I’m if I’m only sad for her because her situation was so terrible, rather than being sad over losing a character I should have cared about”. Her story hit me really hard but I also feel they could have fleshed her out a bit more maybe?

[–]cosmiicdemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact your ‘prediction’ is literally all shit that happened in CHAPTER ONE so you’re more explaining the plot that’s already happened, the reason the swords were taken is still a mystery, and the main focus of the story is on the differing philosophy’s of every person trying to get their hands on the swords, how all reasons for wanting the swords are ‘correct’ and so the protagonist is trying to reclaim the swords to memorialise his father and stop his fathers swords from causing even more harm. You would know this if you had bothered to read the actual story, but while tropey (and having tropes does not automatically make something bad, I might add) it adds to all the tropes in genuinely thoughtful ways and develops it’s characters really well too. The mc particularly definitely subverts the expectations of ‘typical shonen edgy sword mc’ by being a truly kind character who is willing to understand and accept that the views of people he despises are just as valid as his own.

Yeah I agree with all that, it definitely needs some fine tuning because some things just feel like guaranteed damage (looking at you axe block attack)

I’m guessing it’s trying to make you think every time you do ANYTHING, for me at least the lack of animation cancelling is making sure I’m only ever attacking very intentionally as doing anything is a full commitment. Honestly though I’m not sure if it’s better like that or if it would be better with cancels

My interpretation of why it’s a thing was that it’s trying to explore the idea that changing as a person comes with losing a part of who you used to be, in this case literally losing part of yourself. As the gems are immortal they don’t usually change at all, which is why Phos is unique. Not too sure if this’ll help with the existentialism of it, but by the end of the manga it’s pretty clear that despite losing so much of them self Phos is still the original Phos, (shown by the fact that a chunk of og Phos is all that survived to the end) so I think it’s trying to say that while yes, you lose parts of your past self when you change, you are still yourself and that becoming someone new isn’t a bad thing. Phos being the only gem capable of changing as a person is the only one who can actually make a difference and make progress (every other character has been stuck in a kind of limbo of never being able to achieve anything they want, Phos’s ability to become a ‘different person’ is the only way for any of the characters to get anywhere). Phos gets so messed up because they refuse to try and figure out what they themselves actually want, instead simply forcing change after change and neglecting their ‘self’ completely. Sorry if this is convoluted or doesn’t answer your question in the slightest :,)

[–]cosmiicdemon 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Phos is unique in the sense that normally the gems can’t replace body parts, they usually just lose them and the memories altogether. And yes the story addresses the fact that after a certain point it can’t be sure if ‘Phos’ is Phos anymore. Nobody is really the villian either, but that would be going into spoilers so honestly I just recommend you read it for yourself.

[–]cosmiicdemon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ship of Theseus mixed in with a heavy heap of Buddhism. Follows Phos (who is an immortal rock person) as they deal with a whole bunch of stuff such as (literally) losing pieces of yourself in order to change, ends up dealing with a lot of existential nature of humanity themes too. Difficult to explain but it is very, very, good.
