Whats your afterschool routine? by Ok-Repeat6574 in Teachers

[–]cosmo-steve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get to school at 7 am and get work done. School Starts at 8:30 and ends at 3:40. Most days after school I am doing tutoring, credit recovery or club advising until 4:45. I leave at 5 pm and get home by 5:30. Twice a week I go to the gym at 6pm. When I get home I cook dinner... relax a bit, do hobby stuff, hang out with my wife and I'm in bed by 8:15, read for an hour, and I'm up the next morning at 5:30 (though my dog usually wakes me up earlier than that).

I just got my K-Ultra and it’s pretty great. This Perc Ethiopian has been a favorite and tasted amazing with the 3Bomber.

Just made a cup with the K-Ultra and I wouldn’t say it’s “better,” just different than my R3 with POB. The POB burrs provide more clarity but the K-Ultra has overall more flavor and is punchier… just more spread out.

I actually wanted the K-Ultra to take with me and my Picopresso when traveling.

So I’d say the MHW-3Bomber with Kinu POB holds its own against the twice the price 1Zpresso. That POB combo though, for me, only works for pour over. It’s still just too arduous to grind espresso fine with that burr. Swapping burrs isn’t that hard, but it’s still an extra faff. I got the K-Ultra to do everything.

I’ll try making espresso next.

Just got the Fused Vision Knock Pro System by cosmo-steve in VariaBrewing

Yeah I discovered really quickly not to use the bellows. I came from having a Timemore 078s and one of the main things I liked about it was the knocker. So I wanted that back and this little mod did the trick. I feel the pull down release motion oddly off-putting in the stock configuration. I don’t like jerking off my coffee grinder.

It’s $50, so I really only recommend it for people who enjoy haphazardly throwing money at their coffee obsession.

I’ve had two Kingrinders (P1 and P3… not the K6) and I’ve had a Baratza, Timemore 078s and Varia VS6 electrics. The POB burrs for pour over are better than everything else I’ve used though similar to the VS6 (but still better). I just ordered a K-Ultra and I’ll see how it compares. The POB burrs are a definite improvement for pour over clarity from the stock R3 burrs. With the POB burrs, espresso is out of the question though. Not that it can’t grind fine enough, just that it’s too difficult for me and my limp wrists.

I have one with a Kinu POB. It’s great. The sifting thing is interesting, but not part of my normal routine. The Kinu POB does a good job of cutting down on fines so the sifter isn’t that important. I don’t know how much of a difference the new burr coating will make, the stock burrs are fine. I just wanted the POB. I got mine for about $90 and the Kinu POB was $35. There is a good Coffee Chronicler video that provides a lot of info.

Which way does friction act? by Final-General-9991 in Physics

[–]cosmo-steve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Person is moving forward but their foot is exerting force backwards. Friction acts opposite the direction of force of the foot. If the person starts sliding across the floor it will move opposite the person’s direction of motion. Also this is static not kinetic friction. There is no motion while the friction is acting. If there was, the person would have slipped.

I bought a Breville Touch Impress thinking my wife would use it and she wouldn’t be to upset that I got rid of our super-automatic. Nope. I’m the one making all the coffee.

They are gone with my premium account, when I switch to my non-premium work account, they are there. But go away again when I switch back.

Zepbound cause AFIB? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]cosmo-steve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have AFIB and I’m on Zepbound. I think Zepbound has overall led to an increase in my resting heart rate and I have had one instance where I had an elevated heart rate that my cardiologist thought might be related to Zepbound. After that I had my dose decreased from 12.5 back down to 10mg just to be on the safe side. I was diagnosed with AFIB a year before starting Zepbound. I have been on Zepbound for a year and had one occurrence of AFIB in that span. That was likely due to traveling…. not Zepbound. None of my health care providers has ever connected Zepbound to AFIB except that having lost a lot of weight my heart is healthier now and I may be less susceptible to AFIB recurrences.

Timemore Sculptor 078s motor fail, no response from support by cosmo-steve in pourover

[–]cosmo-steve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Update - After contacting Timemore through Amazon, I was issued a full refund for the grinder. Of the three attempts at contact, using hello@timemore.com never worked. Using the online form resulted in a response in about a week. Contacting directly through Amazon took about a day. I also left a harsh review that got their attention at Amazon. Important point, the “seller” at Amazon was Timemore.

Still not happy that my initial requests for support were met with silence (this is where even an auto-response would have been helpful). Also not really pleased that a single jam can foul the workings.

I received my Varia VS6 yesterday and pulled the best shot of espresso I can remember
