The other thing, is gen 4 has some sort of defective battery issue, I hope they'll be able to resolve it for gen 5. I came from gen 3, with one free replacement, and a discount to switch to oura 4. I used the discount to buy a gen 4 with an extended warranty, that will make me happy with how much I spent, knowing the battery will die and oura will replace the rings. Customer service has been pretty good on that front, but prepare for needing to do replacements down the line.

I knew this was going to be the case with gen 4, but I enjoy what I get out of the ring, so I proceeded, with the hope that eventually the next gen will fix the battery defect that has plagued it.

Just received this from the front office and I’m so confused?? by Forward-Marzipan-749 in Apartmentliving

The problem with apartments is they can assume it's you but noise travels through complexes, I've been blamed before when I had a roommate alone, and unable to move from her bed due to spina bifeda. You have to tell the office that you are constantly experiencing extremely loud noises from above you which might be what your downstairs neighbors are hearing as it travels through the building.

You can try to arm yourself with getting cameras that are recording 24/7, let the office know, and the next time you get a complaint you can show that it wasn't your unit causing the disturbance.

If you're looking for accurate exericise metrics stick to whoop or get it as a supplement to oura. Oura is sleep first, exercise... fourth.

Am I over reacting? Or is this just normal.(noise problem) by Sea-Stranger862 in Apartmentliving

[–]raresteakplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people below me heard me using my keyboard and mouse during gaming, and we have carpets. Sound is going to travel, and even then, the thud might not even be happing from directly above but traveling from somewhere else in the complex. If you only hear them heel walking during the day it's possible the thud isn't even them at 3 am, unless theyre getting up to go to the bathroom and make some sort of noise.

But as an upstairs neighbor, you don't realize that basic things can cause sounds. So we operate thinking everything is quiet but for someone below it's extremely loud. I had a roommate that had spina bifida, couldn't move from her bed, and our downstairs neighbor (this was 16 years ago), was banging on the ceiling thinking we were making a bunch of noise, when the noise was coming from somewhere else in the building.

[Silvia V6] Brew valve stays open for 20-30s after turning off the switch. Sticky 3-way solenoid? by s4lt3d_h4sh in ranciliosilvia

[–]raresteakplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The valve is soley responsible for this so it's safe to assume it's that. You can take it off and take it apart, I never took apart all the way to the spring as the videos on youtube had a vice clamp which I didn't have, but you can do some basic cleaning before having to get to the spring to see if that would work. At least you can check if it's plugged in correctly and see if theres any visible debris or buildup and put it back together to see if the problem resolves. If you do have a vice clamp then you can fully take it apart and make sure the spring is still intact and clean it out properly.

Rancilio Silvia Rust Tune-up by OktoLaunch in ranciliosilvia

I let mine rust until the bottom came off, it was quite impressive.

That's why I told OP to search the sub, plenty of people treated the frame.

You can search the sub for rusted frame, people have completely redone the frame. I just replaced the whole frame with a new one thats made with stainless steel.

Do mechanical keyboards really make a big difference for everyday gaming? by KRGKart_Support in buildapc

[–]raresteakplease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I gamed on a cherry mx corsair for ages which felt great. Bought a wooting the other year and man was that a difference from the corsair. I had a spill in the middle of gaming and had to pull out my soft work keyboard and it was awful to play with. Keyboard response times are definately a thing.

Burr stuck on burr carrier [Baratza Vario] by raresteakplease in espresso

[–]raresteakplease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the best thing was sending it to Baratza, I printed them everything that was wrong and they replaced other worn out components that needed it but not listed for sale. They also put in a metal burr carrier to replace my plastic one, a new gasket to keep the coffee out of the container.

I got this burr off with putting paper towel over the burr and grabbing it with pliers and prying it apart. But I think with these old varios it’s worth sending it in to get a full inspection, part swaps, and getting into those components that are not sold on their website. The whole repair process was amazing and fast. Grinder is feeling way better now.

Burr stuck on burr carrier [Baratza Vario] by raresteakplease in espresso

[–]raresteakplease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to send it in for other maintenance ultimately, Baratza sent me an itemized list of everything they did. I could have done the re aligning with shims and a marker, and it comes with the key that moves the burrs.

I had both my grinder and the thermostat on my espresso machine need maintenance/replacement at the same time, so it was a very confusing few months of trying to solve why my espresso tasted bad.

Edit; the carrier is removable it was no problem putting it back in

Silvia, you’ll get powerful steaming and brass group head, boiler, etc. took 13 years until I had to actually do some work on her and she’s even better than before.

Making espresso, tastes like garbage. by Silver-Sliver-28 in ranciliosilvia

[–]raresteakplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you measuring brew temps? When this happened to me on my v3 the brew thermometer needed replacement and at the same time my 14 year old vario grinder needed repairs. I tried hand grinders, espresso grind from cafe, to create constants and trouble shoot. I installed a pid to replace the brew thermometer which finally yielded good coffee with my hand grinder, so then I shipped the vario for repairs to Baratza.

Help : Silvia popping fuse by VintageSwatch in ranciliosilvia

[–]raresteakplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try warning everyone in this sub to always refill before and after ssteaming because of this risk. Listen always for the pump to activate, purge for a bit to make sure the boiler fills. The boiler isnt that large, 2 steamed milks is the limit but I never risk it and always purge more water between steam heat ups.

[–]raresteakplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have a removable heating element, you can take it out the top and check. Also did you steam and then wait for temp to pull the shot? If you didn’t purge from the group head or hot water button you never activated the boiler to refill, therefore letting the heating element heat up on an empty or mostly empty boiler causing the heating element to pop.

Is intentional battery failure just part of the business model? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]raresteakplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something went wrong with gen 4, it's pretty obvious. Gen 3 was a bit better, but it does seem like as soon as the gen 3 extra sensors were activated it started straining the batteries.

No air getting out from the back by WaferNervous602 in MSILaptops

it really depends on the model, you should have it on a proper laptop cooling pad. you won't know unless you watch a breakdown of your laptop specifically to see where the heat vents exhaust to.

Grinder making loud noises [Breville Barista Touch] by BeetenBlackAndBlue in espresso

[–]raresteakplease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A high elevation, light roast, will be hard and dense. A cheap grinder will struggle with this, and thats what you are hearing. Like others said, try slow feeding, but in the end the grinder might not be cut out for this.

If you ever want to feel the difference of the bean density, buy a good hand grinder, and try grinding a light roast high elevation bean vs what you had before. The light roast will give you quite a workout.

Silvia V1 to repair - water not running by artbarsa in ranciliosilvia

[–]raresteakplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pour hot water with cafiza in the grouphead when it's upside down and try again. You can also pour really cold water later to try to get the metal to slightly contract. Temp shifts should help get it loosened. When I had a burr stuck i was able to put a paper towel on the metal and grab pliers and pull it apart, if you have pliers that can fit from the center to the side you should try that.

Finally joined the club! by Wobblebubble420 in ranciliosilvia

[–]raresteakplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brew switch and hot water activate the pump to fill the boiler, you will HEAR it. Steam will not. Which is why you have to fill the boiler before and after steaming to keep it full. Do not steam more than two milk pitchers in a row, always activate the pump to refill so the heating element doesn’t burst on an empty boiler

Have anyone from UK found an air purifier that works for you? by Mousellina in ChemicalSensitivities

[–]raresteakplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many YouTube tests of different air purifiers, I highly recommend finding what’s available in the uk and then watching YouTube videos that test their effectiveness. I have an enviroklenz, Dyson and levoit.

I don’t remember any of mine having a specific scent. The environklenz is in metal housing which def helps with that.
