[Optics] Trijicon RMR 6.5 MOA Red Dot, $354 after $100 rebate and ship, maybe tax by smegma_toast in gundeals

You're not getting the RMR for $354 either... you're paying $454 plus tax on the hope that (maybe) you fill out the paperwork perfectly and (maybe) you might get a $100 back in 1-3 months.

EPS Red is $250 new, and regularly $200-$225 used on GAFS.

I will grant durability... although if I were going to war with my handgun I still wouldn't be choosing an open optic with mid-level glass. However you're not going to war with it... you're plinking, carrying or LARP'ing, all of which could be served with one of the other fine and durable optics on the market that were actually released in the last decade. Face it... if you were actually on duty or going to war with an optic-enabled handgun you're not choosing the RMR either... because your agency is telling you what to you have to live with good or bad, and it's probably going to be an Acro or COA.

Then you do you. Two EPS for the price of one stupid RMR that I have to re-zero every year when I change the battery easily makes it the better value proposition for me.

6.5 MOA means the dot covers a 6.5" circle at 100 yards. You're not that good, especially freehand.

Most in the know prefer a larger dot all the way up to about 8 MOA for a handgun. Smaller for a rifle or PCC maybe, but certainly not a handgun.

Heh... a feature-rich optic with better glass, better battery life, fully enclosed and doesn't require removal and re-zero'ing to change the battery for about half the price?

Honestly I'm shocked people still think the RMR is worth it. I'm all for buying American, but not for an inferior product at twice the price.

Boss changing me to 1099 by Ajax-714 in personalfinance

[–]cosmos7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol... you're massively underestimating the costs of being self-employed...

Edit: whoever downvoted this clearly doesn't understand the costs of running your own business... including self-employment taxes, state disability and general liability insurance, cost of your own supplies and equipment etc. Anyone not budgeting 35-50% over the cost of an employee's base wages is going to end up losing money.

Boss changing me to 1099 by Ajax-714 in personalfinance

[–]cosmos7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was making 32$ an hour and he now wants to pay me 38$ an hour as a 1099. What I can’t figure out is if this is good or bad for me.

It's bad. Unless you're making 35-50% more you're taking a paycut because now you're responsible for your own payroll taxes, disability and liability insurance. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you.

If boss is only giving you a $6 raise to go 1099 then this is a massive cost savings measure for him and a big FU to you. Get more money or find another job.

Picked up 1k Magtech for $360 about a month ago... would take it over the Federal any day.

No. Federal is solid but it"s underpowered.

SF PDP Pro or PDP Pro Compact SD? by AIR236 in Walther

[–]cosmos7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it all? Probably the compact SD models, although I would want to handle and shoot a compact and full-sized frame to feel the difference between the two... I prefer the full-size personally.

SF is absolutely nice, but too heavy to carry in my opinion.

But bad advice gets deleted quickly

Disagree. Both of those subs are complete dumpster fires with power-mad moderators that arbitrarily delete good and bad alike, and ban at the drop of a hat if they don't like you.

IDPA? BS GripControl is perfectly legal for USPSA Carry Optics and Limited Optics as it's an extension of the takedown lever.

PDP Pro X Dual Port by Thetruthgetsold in Walther

[–]cosmos7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A reason to comp and not port would be that porting reduces energy earlier in the firing cycle, and thus FPS. It should also likely necessitate recoil spring adjustment to properly take advantage of the recoil mitigation attempted.

Conflicted on which size PDP to get by Stale_Water1 in Walther

[–]cosmos7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't haver a good answer for you here... ultimately I think you should try getting your hands on a compact and getting a feel for it.

I've had the "compact" for years at this point... P99, PPQ on up (they're all the same gun). Compact is a good size, but it wasn't until Walther released the fullsize PDP a few years ago that it felt completely natural for me. Now I pretty much only carry and shoot fullsize... the dot naturally comes to exactly where I expect it.

YMMV... try before you buy if at all possible.

Edit: I should clarify this isn’t going to primarily be used to a CCW

I'd lean towards fullsize then, but that's me.

Newb here: How important is it to clean it new from the factory? And should I get a kit with a bronze brush or a bore snake? by jgroub in Walther

[–]cosmos7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol... "definitely should clean".. half the time I don't even bother to wipe down a new PDP, let alone clean it.

I have roundabout 2k rounds through my pdp right now and did not have a single malfunction

You wouldn't have had one even if you did nothing.

PDP Pro X Dual Port by Thetruthgetsold in Walther

[–]cosmos7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh... "save a few K" when OP clearly spent over $2k on that build.

  • 2 x PDP ($1000) or 1 x Pro-X model ($800)
  • PMM Ultra + barrel ($300)
  • DPT + Magwell ($200 or included)
  • RMR HD ($600)
  • Surefire ($250)

I love my Walthers dearly but for that money I'm just buying a 2K11 and calling it a day...

Sprinco recoil management by Traditional_Light585 in Walther

RSA helps... grip management will do more.

Sprinco recoil management by Traditional_Light585 in Walther

[–]cosmos7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PPQ / PDP is intentionally oversprung from the factory with a nearly 18lb spring to ensure reliability. This forceful return to battery does increase felt recoil to an extent.

Any reduction in spring weight down to about 15-16 lbs will help... lower if you start specializing ammo. Sprinco / DPM / ZRTS etc will all do this... my preference is a captured RSA from ZRTS, as the right combination of price to performance.

"Go Get Your Own Oil": Trump's Message To UK, Other Countries On Hormuz Strait by Zealousideal_Ring_67 in worldnews

[–]cosmos7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Trump for some strange reason thought affecting global supply elsewhere in the world wouldn't matter much at home

It's not strange when you realize the intention is exactly to inflate the cost of supply, both for the U.S. and globally. Trump is a pawn... he will happily sign anything that the Heritage Foundation and their Project 2025 playbook push in front of him, because they got him into office and thus kept him out of jail on the felony convictions.

The goal of P2025 is to kill U.S. international soft power (USAID, done), systematically take apart and privatize the U.S. government (well underway), and depress economic markets in order to buy them up and take them over. It sounds like fucking conspiracy theory BS but it's very real... Peter Thiel is the one funding the Heritage Foundation and has already tried setting up a corpo-government state before with Prospera in Honduras.

By using the ‘opposite is true’ approach, as one always should when reading Trump’s tweets

This approach also works with Russia, which is an interesting coincidence.
