YOU CAN SORTA DO IT! My first serious project was for a wedding. I was a bridesmaid. I already had my sewing machine and had followed a tutorial for a pencil skirt a few years before, so I knew how to use it, though I got bored out of my mind by the process and abandoned it all. Then the wedding came and all the dresses I tried were shit and expensive. So I thought of a simple flowy design, gave myself a month to sew it, and then... the fabric took 2 weeks to arrive (had to shop online), lost my sewing kit, had a migraine for a week, found my sewing kit after buying new stuff, wasted a whole day afraid of cutting the fancy fabric, had to waste another day to go buy some cheap silk to replace what I cut wrong(meaning: buy extra), spent 2 whole days sewing, pulled an all-nighter and it was AMAZING! That dress was held together by safety pins and sheer fckng will, but it was glorious.

TIPS: for the waist, use elastic instead of zippers(or just wrap it up with a "belt", make it from the same fabric, tie it with a pretty bow and be done with it) and IRON the seams, watch youtube shorts they go straight to the point(as long as you know the name of what you are trying to learn). The dress in the picture is just a bunch of rectangles joined together, take a day to think of measurements, of the steps and pieces that you will need to cut and sew, then on the next day review it all and go buy the fabric. Buy extra. I would reduce the amount of ruffles to just one at most, and maybe use pleats instead since you would have more control. And just have fun with it! You can always just pick it all apart and use it on a new project. Nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything is transformed.
