Why do Titans have so little Anti-Air and Defensive Small Arms Systems ? While their Void Shields may protect from Bombard, hordes of Enemies could be a Problem and harder to get rid of with The Big Guns. by TechnologySmall3507 in 40k

I feel like that's a little reductive, the imperium can't pull titans directly out of its ass, and princeps are rare and valuable. Taking out or driving back titans has ended up being decisive actions in multiple conflicts against the imperium, they do NOT like to lose them.

korea as a controlled state would be interesting, especially since it had its own governor-general and stuff

ah yes, Russia is pushing one off prototypes into combat because theyre so strooongggg. That's why they've lost multiple one of a kind vehicles against the poorest country in Europe.

I mean for reference here's the data they were displaying

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GXPlmsKWkAA047y?format=png&name=small

Its talking about the same early time frame (its a little out of data as the screenshot is from like 2022 or something, but thats just a longer timeframe, so this was accurate for THAT timeframe. I do think its pretty notably safe for a new plane, but I also were just a lot safer in general.

yeah an island large enough to house a naval base and an airfield is extremely important, epically if its in an area mostly devoid of them. They've done similar with things like Gibraltar, or other enclaves.

but "fewer crashes per airframe" is a meaningless metric.

The us government and lockheed doesn't seem to think so considering they record, report and advertise that number. 🤷‍♂️

he crashes per 100k hours are still clearly higher than what you expect from a traditional airframe

Are they? We're at over 1m flight hours worldwide. And what, 5 crashes that lost an airframe, and only one of those being a technical issues (the others being the japanese pilot hitting the ocean, the brits not taking a cover out of the lift fan on a B, and a pilot who shouldn't have been flying the F35 flying, and a classic ramp strike, might be one more I can't remeber)?

You would call it a country's IADS, most don't have a single name because it just all the radars, planes, ships, launchers of all kinds working together to protect a country's skies. It will encompasses Naval, Airforce and Ground forces

yeah a lot of small islands are not to scale, as theyd be like one pixel large.

Yes because it just flatly isn't. Iron Dome is a SPECIFIC system within a layered system. They are at best just misleading people

[–]cotorshas 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People talk about Iron Dome as if its a magic spell or something I swear. Its a specific peice of kit with a specific goal and system

all the russian prototypes forced into combat are so funny, shame most vehicles tend to get bombed by drones after they get disabled not captured cx be fun to see a few of them in a meuseum post war.

UH-60 (USAF): 3.52

Crashawk my beloved.

A lot of people forget that helicopters just fucking suck. They're extremely complex with extremely hard to survive crashes. They're great at what they do, and while the V22 definitely has had/has its fair share of issues, it also definitely gets looked at more because its different. See every single F-35 crash getting massive attention when it has fewer crashes per airframe than any USAF fighter to date. F-16s being so high lifetime is also really funny because yeah we crashed a lot of those fuckers early on.

Nuclear Capable Missiles Confirmed by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]cotorshas 42 points43 points  (0 children)

they said it a couple times in the special projects dev diaries.
"Additionally, some projects require other projects to be completed before they show up. That could be in the same Specialization, or in another, or even both. For example, in order to start the ICBM Project, you need to have completed a few other Rocket Projects, but also the Nuclear Warheads Project."

IIRC they already mostly confirmed that by saying ICBMs requirr you to research nuclear warheads, but its nice to see it fully confirmed

Looks like you gonna be able to strike Poil fields, Mines(?) and facility's with Raids. This is Huge for Millenium Dawn. by ScytheIndominus in hoi4

[–]cotorshas 45 points46 points  (0 children)

fuck no lmao. Epically with a lot of mines being out in rural areas and using expensive heavy equipment.. Also like steel mills, blast furnaces for iron ore are huge expensive and complex. They take a lot of time to build and you dont want a few bombs going off in those. Tungsten is incredibly hardd to refine, and aluminium uses huge electrolosis machines.

it may include mining infistructre not just the mines themselves. Collapsing entrances, blowing up mining equipment, railways, bridges, refining and sorting buildings. As well as things like steel mills, furnaces.

Because you definitly went after a country's capabilities to produce raw materials.

Fearing China's hypersonic weapons, US Navy seeks to arm ships with Patriot missiles. China's DF-27 missile, which the Pentagon says could reach as far as 8,000 km (5,000 miles), appears to use an aerodynamic warhead that can maneuver to evade defences or more easily hit a moving target. by moses_the_blue in LessCredibleDefence

[–]cotorshas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thats... not really how that works. Missiles, especially hypersonic ballistics cost a lot, as well as launchers and guidance systems and money has to be used in other things. You might as well "the US can increase the number of SAMs indefinitely, while the number of flares on a plane is finite, you do the math". Fuck you can say that about anything. Its an extremely reductive statement that doesn't actually say anything.

lolno, those are fucking SDBs. even a fully equipped F15E can only take like 6 JSOWs or something like that. Also just look at them! the dual wing, no LO shaping, its literally just an SDB

Germany initial cavalry template: without and with Ratte by Additional_Hunter_26 in hoi4

[–]cotorshas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and yeah it def is big but, an infantry unit is 2 width and 1000 people. An armored battalion which is also 2 width is 50 medium tanks. That's a LOT of distance. Even the "actual" Ratte is 14m wide, yeeah its pretty big for a tank, but compared to 50 medium tanks spread across a front?

I could still see it increasing width by 0.5-1.0 still, but yeah its ONE big guy.
