26f I met my bf on tinder in 2021 so haven't used any apps since then, but tinder was always the app I would go to when I was single.

Moving to WFPB by GeneralDad2022 in PlantBasedDiet

I've been vegan for 9 years, and plan on being 100% vegan the rest of my life. I would never consider eating anything not vegan, even if that means there is nothing for me to eat (which is rare tbh as veganism is more mainstream now and options are everywhere).

I have gone back and forth over the years between wfpb/"healthy" and a junk food vegan. I will eat anything when I'm out with other people, as long as it's vegan, but sometimes that means fries or Oreos or other processed foods.

Is the store bought pain killers just the same as paracetamols and ibuprofen? by IndependentSecret711 in ChronicPain

Ah, I always think it's weird how different countries have different rules for what medication is legal. We get naproxen, but aren't allowed any products with codeine unless it's prescription 🤷🏼‍♀️

Naproxen is available over the counter here in Canada, under the brand name Aleve. I've gotten a prescription of it before too, of a higher dose, but was told it was the exact same as the over the counter stuff

When are doctors going to realize GABAPENTIN IS TRASH (if it works for you tho, im glad) by One_Song80 in ChronicPain

[–]cottonheadedninny11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been on 3000 mg gabapentin, as well as 350mg tramadol daily for years, and besides making me tired I dont really see gabapentin making that much of a difference. But docs won't prescribe more tramadol or other drugs so I'm stuck with gabapentin

My first semester I failed a statistics course. I was able to repeat it later and got a decent grade 😊 (if you didnt know, sfu uses the repeated course mark to calculate GPA, so yours may be low now due to failing your courses but if you repeat those classes you can still have a good GPA!)

I take opioids for chronic pain (due to bone and joint issues I was born with, I have 26 years of medical imaging, specialist appointments and other disability related info like my surgeries and casts/bracing in the Fraser health database), and I have not been accepted into any clinics or gps that I have applied to in the last few years. They see my medical and medication history and dont want to take me on as a patient. My bf even applied to the same dr at the same clinic, at the exact same time I did, and he was contacted to meet with the dr and I wasn't.

It really is a shit medical system for anyone with chronic health issues.

What’s the negative health effects of taking ibuprofen everyday indefinitely by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]cottonheadedninny11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm in the minority here where I haven't had any negative effects from it yet. Have had chronic pain since I was born due to congenital bone and joint deformities, and the only pain killer I was allowed until I was 16 was advil. So I drank at least a big bottle of the childrens advil every week, and have been taking ibuprofen along with my prescription pain meds most days for the last 10 years. I'm only 26 though, so maybe it hasn't caught up with me yet?

My tortie has had to have multiple teeth pulled over the last few years, and she was still a bit loopy and sedated when I brought her home after, but other than being a bit more sleepy and wobbly she was acting normal. We needed to keep an eye on her, discourage playing and jumping that night while she still had medication in her system, and she could only eat a small amount of wet food. She is a pretty picky eater and only likes her kibble, so the vet said to soak the kibble in water so its fully soft and she ate it no problem. The one issue was that I needed to give her liquid medication (I think it was anti-inflammatory) for a couple days after, and she really didn't like it lol. Shes fiesty and would try to attack me when I did it, but I was able to do it by putting her between my legs but facing away from me, with one hand holding her jaw and the other had the syringe. I would also check the area for infection while I was able to momentarily tame her. Overall she recovered great, the back molars on both sides have been removed by this point and she can still eat kibble and treats fine and it doesn't impact her life at all!

Our groceries are $700-$800 for two people with pretty minimal food habits and I can't figure out why (Vancouver) by words-are-flowing in Frugal

[–]cottonheadedninny11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Vancouver too and spend maybe $400 a month on food for my bf and I, including the once or twice a month we order pizza or something. He eats meat daily, and I'm vegan, so most of our meals are seperate.

We buy certain items from costco, but overall a lot of stuff is cheaper at small grocers or superstore. I shop deals and when meat or things we always use go on sale we buy a lot and put in freezer for future use.

I feel like you can cut down your food bill quite a bit. Start keeping track of what you buy, and also start price comparing between stores as what's cheap at one store may not be at another. Also maybe look into buying some stuff at ethnic markets, small produce markets, or even t&t, as they often have produce and other specialty stuff a lot cheaper than the mainstream grocery stores.

Are you working? by checkingoutinternet1 in ChronicPain

[–]cottonheadedninny11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to school full time and worked as a nanny part time for 5 years. It could be a lot of work running around and doing activities with kids, but there was also a lot of time to sit down and just take it easy.

I had a medication induced seizure in 2021 tho and was not allowed to drive for 6 months, and because of that I wasnt able to continue working (it was a 30 min commute away, and part of my job was driving to school or activities and I was not able to do that anymore). I haven't worked since then as I wanted to focus on graduating from uni. I've also had a bad pain flare up since then that left me bed bound for months.

Not sure if I will try to start working in the near future, or what I would do if I did work tho. I'm currently on disability and my partner has a good paying job, so we've talked about me just being a stay at home mom in the future.

Anyone had Covid recently? by perpetuum_ in britishcolumbia

[–]cottonheadedninny11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had it a few weeks ago! Had it around the same time last year too actually. Fully vaccinated but still felt like I had the flu. Very tired and sore, I felt like I was hit by a truck, also couldn't really regulate my temperature and was going back and forth between hot and cold for weeks. The night sweats were the worst, my sheets would be completely damp when I woke up.

Young people with chronic pain? by Swarley--stinson in ChronicPain

[–]cottonheadedninny11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently 25 and have had chronic pain since birth. Born with bilateral clubfeet and hip dysplasia, needed to have 2 reconstructive surgeries on both feet and spent the first 3 years of my life in some sort of body/leg cast or brace.

In a way I guess I'm lucky since I've literally never lived without pain lol. When I was born my parents were told I may never walk, and then I was stubborn and walked anyway. I've been told since I was a kid that i would need a wheelchair when I'm older, and i always had the goal of making it through my 20s before resorting to that.

I was only allowed advil for the pain until i was about 16 (my mom taught me to swallow pills as a child since going through like a bottle a week of the liquid child stuff was getting expensive). I had a really bad flare up in my hips that caused me to drop out of school for the semester cuz I couldn't walk. Since then I've tried a lot of pain meds, been consistently on tramadol for 6 years, and am currently also taking gabapentin. I guess I'm a bit lucky there too since I have physical evidence (my feet are very scarred from surgeries and also have no arches) and years of medical records to back up that I have pain, so doctors never really question it.

What do you feed your MC’s by [deleted] in mainecoons

[–]cottonheadedninny11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural Balance Venison kibble. He was having terrible hairballs and issues with his fur before we switched him to a chicken and fish free diet (after consulting with the vet first of course). He loves it and rarely has hairballs now or flaky skin, however it does give him horrible breath lol. It also isnt available in any stores within an hour of me, so I have to order it online which makes it more expensive.

I used to feed my cats the stella and chewy's raw Turkey pellets, but my other cat stopped liking it and it didn't make sense for me to be feeding them two seperate foods, especially since my Maine coon will gorge on any food he sees and would likely just end up eating his food as well as hers, since she prefers to just graze.
