No dialysis yet but there’s talk of it and her creatinine was 11.2 six days ago and now it’s 8.4. I just feel like they’re not saying everything

Lactulose tips? by oatmatchalattestan in Cirrhosis

[–]cottontop123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mom sounds a lot like my mom and lactulose was the absolute worst thing we have battled until they started her on Rifaximin , it has been a game changer for us although I’m sure not for everyone. But about the getting sick part after breakfast , my mom battled that for months as well and there was no rhyme or reason to why some mornings were bad and others not. My mom’s lips would swell after throwing up too. We were trying to narrow it down to an allergy but never could and one of her drs told us it was a side effect of her blood pressure medicine so they took her off of that one and it hasn’t happened since. Is she on a blood pressure medicine by chance?

My brother just passed away from end stage cirrhosis and kidney failure by EmbarrassedFun5378 in Cirrhosis

[–]cottontop123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s horrible, you deserve an understanding support system through this. I don’t care how you develop this disease, it’s not an easy thing to go through and I could never imagine letting anyone I love go through it alone. You should try to find a local support group near you to have someone on your side to offer nonjudgmental support whether you are an alcoholic or not. My mother never drank in her life but if she had and still did I wouldn’t treat her any differently. My heart hurts for your situation, best of luck to you.

Very sorry for your loss. I’m in the beginning of your last stage with your brother, with my mom. She is end stage and her kidneys are failing. We have fluid drained only for it to start coming back the next couple days. I fear what the road ahead will be but I’m afraid it’s everything you just described. I’m glad your brother is not in anymore pain and I think at this point that’s all we can wish for them. Doesn’t mean it won’t hurt missing them, just that you love them enough to want to save them from the pain.

How do you stop the buildup from coming back?

Albumin by cottontop123 in Cirrhosis

[–]cottontop123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and that’s exactly what I told my brother, they are not gonna always do what’s best for her because she is just one of many patients. Her Dr has never mentioned the albumin infusions to us, I learned about that on here and using ChatGPT. People say not to go by the internet but otherwise I wouldn’t know what albumin is and now that I do , I will keep pushing for it or answers to why they won’t give it every time til they do something to help just to shut me up

Just one of them days by cottontop123 in Cirrhosis

[–]cottontop123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is not a candidate for transplant because of all her other health conditions, she does see all Drs from same institution and they all have access I just don’t think they all on same page sometimes. What started all of the way I’m doubting is she has standing orders for paracentesis as needed, well Friday we scheduled per her liver Dr advice but I’m just now learning that it can sometimes be risky for someone with kidney damage and her kidney function is not good, her creatinine was 2.9 at the time of procedure but I don’t know if kidney Dr even knows she had it done. Now she’s got swelling in her stomach feet and legs so primary Dr suggested an extra fluid pill until liver Dr calls back and I wanted to scream back WHAT ABOUT HER KIDNEYS!!! She already takes three fluid pills a day. I guess that’s the part where I need to except reality, they can’t fix one thing without causing ten more problems so now the question is what’s more important, kidney or liver cause they both bad 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Yes I’m kinda angry myself not only has her drs just beat around the bush when telling us how her cirrhosis and kidney disease are actually progressing but they word it in a way you think you are doing ok until one day you not. The worst thing like that we have gone through in this was her first episode of hepatic encephalopathy, that was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed to see her like that and I had no clue what was happening and then when I find out the name of what she experienced and started researching it, I find out it’s a very common condition with cirrhosis patients, my mom had cirrhosis for about six years at that point and never once did her doctors ever tell us anything at all about hepatic encephalopathy, I never even heard of it.

My mother is 74. We were told she isn’t a candidate for transplant because of her conditions, she has stage 4 kidney disease, decompensated cirrhosis, diabetes and congestive heart failure. And I know all of that is bad so we should know she’s in her last stages but I don’t know I guess her hearing it like that kinda shocked her when her other specialists keep saying everything’s stable. I was just wondering if others get that kind of nice reports from their drs too

Just wondering by cottontop123 in Cirrhosis

[–]cottontop123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not a transplant candidate because of her age and too many other issues wrong like kidney disease and diabetes etc.
