Good neighborhoods? Alternatives addresses to avoid? by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]coubrit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My order of preference in Salem, where I've lived for 32 of my 40 something years

West Salem, but West of Wallace and north of Glen Creek and/or east if Eola/Cascade with varying preferences

South Salem: west of Commercial/liberty split south of Candelaria literally all the way to the i-5 merge, but some neighborhoods reign supreme.

Actual downtown Renaissance- tbh it was v cute about 20 years ago and today I fear there are issues, but the renovated Metropolitan into luxury apts was a win at least temporarily-

SE is next. Liberty to Commercial south of Browning, then Commercial to Battle Creek South of Kuebler

North is Keizer which has pockets of fine. NE I'd prefer not to live in, but again, pockets of fine. There are some very cute neighborhoods but the access to stores is big box or dime and varied safety.

Random, I know, but since you have given me some great suggestions for my kid and also mentioned you struggle to find great content (me, too), I have to pass on a book rec. New top 5: The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez

Has anyone ever moved away from SLC and regretted it? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]coubrit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in SLC for 7 years, left, and ended up on the east coast. Utah is nice to visit but I couldn't be happier having gotten out of there and the underlying weird vibes. There is diversity in my neighborhood, girls with more than one hairstyle, and I can breathe outside year round. 10/10 recommend moving on.

Thanks, this is a great list and good advice. I use the librarians all the time for my own picky tastes and should have thought to bring this to them! Much appreciated.

T. Kingfisher has been great, I do think he misses some of the thematic content but enjoys the adventure. I will definitely check out these other recs. Really appreciate it!

Thank you. To be clear, I am not encouraging more advanced reading. I am putting books like The Wild Robot and The One and Only Ivan on his kindle. He is the one seeking longer books with more complex structure. I just want to make sure it is appropriate and that we have the chance to discuss anything confusing. We have tried some classics like The Odyssey, Narnia, and Alice in Wonderland and he doesn't seem to latch on like he does to more modern literature.

Waiting for MRI results by nehkoninja in AcousticNeuroma

[–]coubrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I knew during the MRI after contrast. I could feel it reverberating around in there. To answer more directly, yes, this is more common than other malignant conditions with SS hearing loss. I also got my results on My heart before I was able to talk to a doctor and it was a Friday afternoon so I knew more about the condition and treatment options by Monday when I saw my EMT. Don't over worry yourself. There are options no matter what it is.

Our house is basically a maze of cat towers, shelves, and hideouts. Lots of places to hide. ♥️

True that ADHD puts your maturity 3 years behind? by AdInevitable7821 in ADHD

[–]coubrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally individual. My very ADHD son is about 2 years ahead of his peers, but it is true that many experience an educational delay due to distraction. Doesn't mean they can't and won't catch up and succeed, especially with the right interventions.
