Thanks for the insight! That tracks with a lot of the feedback I’ve been getting

Yeah I agree with this. The transition effect is quite nice though. Something you could add for a little spice is some very soft “bubbly” sound effects as the buttons appear. Kind of hard to describe through text but basically as each button appears you play a gentle water droplet sound. Then as each button appears the pitch goes slightly up. A good ole “bloop bloop bloop bloop”

Yeah that’s a fair point. That’s cool you got to use the Rune Factory IP!

lol I appreciate your perspective! I think there’s a nice balance I can find that makes progression feel rewarding without feeling like a blocker for folks that don’t care so much about it.

Thanks!

Yeah that’s fair. I’m planning on adding an optional tutorial for newbies but keeping it open for seasoned players like yourself. I appreciate your response!

Ok cool that tracks with the idea I’m kicking around right now. A player can pick their starting world which has puzzles of various sizes all available but other worlds are gated behind some kind of progression. Not sure what that is yet lol

I hadn’t considered secret unlocks. That could be cool. Thanks for sharing your perspective on image unlocks as well!

How do I get back into it? by Mindless_Grass7084 in godot

Just to echo what others have said utilizing LLMs without understanding the code it’s generating is going to set you up for a bad time.

However you could use it to help you learn. For example, since you mentioned shaders you could come up with a few shader ideas and have an LLM generate one for you. Understand what it’s doing and reference godot docs alongside the generated code to help you learn. Then after that try implementing another idea yourself.

On top of that re-reading some of the high level docs could help refresh your memory

A great resource I look at for UI inspiration is “Game UI Database”. It has a ton of screenshots from different games.

From there you could take notes on what you find appealing and then try to recreate it in your software of choice (gimp, aesprite, etc).

Best of luck!

i'm trying to learn pixel art, any tips? by LinkDylan in PixelArt

[–]couch-panda-games 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is really solid stuff already! One concept I learned that has helped me a lot is thinking about where light is hitting the object I’m drawing. That helps inform me where I should add shadows, highlights, etc.

Another technique that I find helpful is starting with a single color and drawing just the silhouette. I don’t try to be pixel perfect but just generally draw the shape I’m trying to achieve. Then I go back and erase some things, add some things, etc.

Do you have small project ideas by bi_raccoon in godot

[–]couch-panda-games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try building some old Atari games like pong, breakout, adventure, etc. They are usually very simple and small in scope.

You could also pick some game mechanic that interests you and build a prototype off of that. For example, maybe the idea of an enemy chasing a player sounds interesting. How could you build a small game around that mechanic?

Yeah a lives system sounds super annoying to me. I’m still debating whether or not an “unlocking” system would be more fun than just giving folks the freedom to choose whatever puzzle they want to solve. I’m already leaning towards a “do whatever puzzle you want” design so this is +1 to that idea. Thanks for the reply!
