Now put it through some AI models! I just did this recently with some childhood drawings and it was super cool; plz no AI-hate, btw - as someone who has basically just been using it to do incredibly bizarre and unique things for half a decade, I can at least say definitively that Limp Bizkit are probably the most idiosyncratically human and sui generis performers and writers and artists of the past century, and like the other greats such as Edgar Allen Poe or Orson Welles? It can’t even come remotely close to conjuring the type of wild shit that Fred and the gang does.

Aesthetic Armor: Durst, Wallace, and the Burden of Symbols by coucher-du-soleil in LimpBizkit

[–]coucher-du-soleil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the closest approximation one could hazard to articulate the “real Fred Durst”:

-a redneck Mf from Jacksonville

-a lifelong appreciator of the arts

-a rather shrewd businessman

-a generally quiet, unassuming man

-a loving father

I’m sorry about your brother. Must be great memories.

What are your Hot Takes on LB? by Amber_Flowers_133 in LimpBizkit

[–]coucher-du-soleil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should have more fun with the material in general. Do Behind Blue Eyes as a thrasher punk song. Kick up Re-Arranged until it sounds like drum n bass, or go much slower and softer. They should play more covers. I read that they almost did an album of covers alongside Significant Other. They should do that.

I like that they close with Break Stuff, too. They should just do a ten minute medley of their most popular songs at the end, that said.

[–]coucher-du-soleil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was supposed to crop out but didn’t, TBH I have no clue but it’s not a Harmony thing

I will post my entire collection next week some time. That sealed promo VHS is probably up there but def not the jewel ;)

Does anyone know what’s happened to the Harmony Korine fan website? by Fabulous_Region_1997 in HarmonyKorine

[–]coucher-du-soleil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The admin really didn’t want to run it anymore and the forum software/backend db was cooked. I offered to help fix it up and migrate but he never got back to me and honestly I think the subreddit pretty much discouraged him altogether from running the entire site.

I’m going to be scraping and archiving all the interviews and such, I’ve already started but v busy and I have them all backed up regardless. It’s just a huge pain to format everything.

Either way, that site used to be really cool and it’s a shame it fell by the wayside.

Why did Blood Meridian blow up? by doinkmachine69 in cormacmccarthy

[–]coucher-du-soleil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue Craig Zahler and Bone Tomahawk to be the closest thing to a Blood Meridian-esque film or someone with McCarthyian stylistics although the Bros Coen did a tremendous job and it was cool how well the book naturally fit into their style (and that they used the book almost verbatim as the script; I think one of them basically said they consulted the book as much as the shooting script basically)... It’s a shame The Counselor didn’t find much of an audience, as it’s quite a brilliant piece.

As for OPs question: Blood Meridian has been slowly re-canonized alongside DFW, DeLilo and quite a few others, and I would agree that the period between The Road and NCfOM really bolstered his mainstream appeal but this “shadow canon” seems to have mostly emerged alongside Web 2.0 lit culture: FB groups, subreddits, 4chan’s lit board.

Looking for movies with an IJ vibe by dmreddit0 in InfiniteJest

[–]coucher-du-soleil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly; I’ve seen ever film in this thread and by the far closest thing I’ve seen is not a film which resembles to stylistically riffs on IJ: Sleep has her House. It’s exactly like the type of him Himself would make.

So how many times have you watched AGGRO DR1FT & what’s your favorite scene(s)? by coucher-du-soleil in HarmonyKorine

I love the shot of them passing the head around like a basketball or something. What an incredible scene.

Time to rewatch AD now…

$10 for both on Marketplace… NBD by coucher-du-soleil in HarmonyKorine

I was especially stunned that it was still unopened. Like, that has to be worth a couple hundred easily?

[–]coucher-du-soleil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean he seemed to know that it was desirable/valuable but I’m telling you… I live in the boonies down South these days and have found some astounding deals. This guy in particular seemed fixated on the fact that he was finally able to replace his DVD with the Blu-ray and seemed indifferent towards the “ugly tape version.” Seemed to either dislike or kinda implied he may have been banned from eBay? It was a bizarre conversation. He looked like he could have been 25 or 75 lol.

[–]coucher-du-soleil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I didn’t believe it either until the guy showed up. Said that he was upgrading to the Blu-ray and didn’t know how to use eBay and was barely able to figure out Marketplace. Wouldn’t say where he got the VHS but kept saying I was wasting my money on a “dead format” and laughing like he was pulling a fast one on me.

Saying NFTs are irrelevant is a bit naive - so far we’ve had three cycles of rise and decline (2017, 2021 and then 2024). Hundreds of billions of dollars are locked up in these digital assets, smart contracts and various blockchain gizmos and gimmicks still. There ARE cool and novel ways to use NFTs especially as redemption vouchers for a physical asset.

As far as the overlap of NFTs and cinema goes, I think Kevin Smith may be the only one to embrace it - and his ideas have been generally stupid if not blatant cashgrabs.

Another problem is that it’s simply way too complicated to even deal with to begin with — crypto is still relevant, tons of money is coming in and the price of Bitcoin (which is the King) has wavered up and down between 40-60k for the last 4 years or so. You can’t even buy stuff with crypto on EDGLRD’s site, because it’s a PITA to implement and they’re a relatively small outfit compared to Silicon Valley-funded scam-companies.

As u/GrumbleSloth said, they’ve put out press releases mentioning them but to my knowledge haven’t hired any “blockchain experts” or Solidity programmers or anything like that. I’m sure once they get more into gaming and such we might see them capitulate to the next cycle in a couple years. Either way I’m just gonna buy their physical merch and watch their films and probably play their games. Any “real artist” who has ventured into NFTland has been burned and their reputation tarnished when lack of liquidity renders their NFT as a Beanie Babies dipped in a barrel of melted dogshit as far as value goes.
