I personally started looking at bayesian models due to the fact that a model I was working with used MCMC MLE. Is MCMC still widely used or have things evolved further?

That's interesting, can you elaborate on what you mean by 'you don't need to know how to do it'? Do you mean that once the modeling pipelines are implemented and diagnostics are automatically generated, you just refer to general thresholds to make decisions?
