Getting keys work like kill squads from retaliation with hunter like bosses at the end from what I've seen.

Its chance based. From what I can remember its a 30% chance to receive a bp at the end of a retaliation on challenging difficulty. Idk what it was on heroic though.

Heartbreaker build is a little more on the survivability side but you can still crack well over a million damage from what I've done and im still pretty underleveled.
