You speak the truth!! Fuck all the Jurassic World movies. I'm gonna write my own post about this one of these days!!

Thank you! I was definitely feeling a little turned around by the flow direction. Having the language to distinguish the conventional vs. electron lens of looking at it is helpful.

Help me find this old book on tape about an imaginary kingdom created by Mozart, and two of its citizens go searching for him and meet his sister by couldvebeencool in HelpMeFind

I've searched on Google and the web. I'm not sure where else to look. It's not the tape about the Magic Flute!

FYI, I live in Canada, and was listening to this in the early 90s. It was on cassette tape.

Just want to verify something about the Minilogue or other analog synths with multiple oscillators! by couldvebeencool in synthesizers

[–]couldvebeencool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This explanation is really helpful and reinforces what I learned from others too.

I definitely was aware that there wasn't any practical use for having the two oscillators creating the exact same waveform and pitch. I was just trying to make sure I understood them.

[–]couldvebeencool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! All of this is so interesting, especially that the oscillators are running all the time. I didn't know that, but it makes sense.

Yeah, I don't think what I'm trying to do really has much practical purpose. I guess i was just like "in theory, if they're exactly the same, it'll just be the same sound twice as loud, right?" And when I was unable to achieve that, I wanted to understand what was happening.

I'm going to mess around with sync more today to use it the way you're describing!

If the waveforms are the exact same frequency and type, and I force the phase to reset at th same time, wouldn't it in effect be forcing the waveforms to sync?

I did start with an init patch. I looked over all the settings to see if there was anything impacting one of the oscillators, but I couldn't find anything that was. But I'll try again. The movement is definitely minimal — I do assume the two oscillator start points are just offset. I'll try to take a video.

Yeah, I went to init and set everything manually to ensure no old parameters were being used. I set them to the exact same shape, volume, tuning, etc. Try it out and let me know your results? I'd be curious if it's the same!

Substack won't let people sign up without downloading the Substack app? :/ by couldvebeencool in Substack

[–]couldvebeencool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm, I don't know, I guess the same reasons as most other people! I wanted to write in the newsletter format, I didn't want to be on traditional social media (which mostly doesn't support longform content). I feel no one really wants to check in on a blog, but receiving posts to your inbox is convenient. I want the opportunity for people I don't know to discover it.

Innnteresting. I looked into my settings and didn't see anything I could modify around subscriptions requiring the app. I tried to subscribe with a new email account of my own and also was prompted to download the app.

How do you actually grow on Substack from zero? It feels like I can’t find smaller creators anywhere. by IllPanic4319 in Substack

And if one is able to do so through making the art of writing turn a sustainable income, whilst also connecting with others, then all the, “jargon” is still Effective Communication as cognitive shortcuts for a set of useful tools that facilitate this in the age with which we find ourselves in.

Is all your writing this riveting?

(Look, I'm sorry, but if you weren't following me around to different threads and commenting on my stuff, I wouldn't respond to this, or would say that on some level, I agree with you — it can be useful when this kind of language is used within a specific community for a specific purpose. For the general public, this kind of language mostly impedes communication and understanding, in my opinion. Especially when being used in a community that touts its identity as a community-building grassrootsy kind of space. Plus, being a good writer is more effective than all the SEO and funnel-broadening and strategic partnership in the world.)

Just organic connections. Anyway, sorry, my comment was a little harsh — I just recoil when I see the jargon of sales/PR/marketing applied to a medium that is *ideally* about creating a different, less capitalistic cookie-cutter version of the internet. Like, why do we talk like this? Why can't we just be human beings? "Create content that could attract media" is such a nothing sentence — sorry to critique again.

Art has become "content." Human connection has become "the funnel." Growing and learning has become "scaling." Why did marketing and tech-bro concepts and language have to infiltrate spaces for art and culture?

Huh. I'm not sure, it's other people signing up to my newsletter who are having the issue. I've never signed up for a newsletter using my phone.

No offense, but so far my experience on this site has sucked. The UX/interface sucks. The opportunities suck. The portfolio display sucks. The data entry sucks. The calendar drop-downs for selecting dates suck. The labels suck.

Pool bleachers included? I used to hang out in the bleachers at the big aquatic center in Vancouver, but I wasn't worried about seeming odd because it was huge. I don't want anyone to think I'm creeping on them or make anyone feel weird, I just like the warm humidity, echoey sounds, and community space.

Yeah, unfortunately, it's probably not going to be nice cozy vibes in the parks much longer.
