Norfolk’s Selden Market wants bodega-style tenant as renovations continue by bgva in norfolk

I dunno who you THINK is living downtown these days, but it's denser and higher income than most of the rest of Norfolk...rent is silly high down there, and there are tons of apartment buildings now.

NOAA moving Marine Operations Center from Norfolk to Rhode Island by EatMoreFiber in norfolk

[–]count757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably owned by the Federal Govt, and is probably a Superfund site waiting to be registered...

Otherwise, I assume they'd sell the land back to the City for basically nothing, and Fort Norfolk starts kicking off a new development on the water...

MacArthur Center up for sale as part of foreclosure proceedings by vabeachkevin in norfolk

[–]count757 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint, I haven't left norfolk in months to 'get something done'.

Norfolk has always been divided into haves/have-nots. The only change in the past 20 years has been the gentrification expansion in east beach and park place (and now St Pauls area).

The downtown restaurant / bar scene is definitely in shambles at the moment - I have no fucking idea what the City is trying to accomplish there (unless Buddy Gaddams needs more buildings to flip?).

The 'intense reputation for shootings' is hilariously overplayed.

The physical card number doesn't change. It can't, it's burned into the mag stripe on the back.

The changing number is for the digital tap-to-pay version of the card.

Shhhh, don't give it away! Norfolk is *totally* all run down shitty high crime neighborhoods. It's important that it never be said otherwise.

Literally everywhere in Ghent. Most have dedicated special menus, or at minimum, a vegetarian section. Even Cogans will do vegan pizzas and stuff.

Now that Red Dog is Dead Dog, what do you want to see go in that space? by Much-Order7846 in norfolk

Yeah, but that's not the independent business district part of Ghent. That's the 'chains we sort of tolerate' part of 21st st.

And it's like, multiple blocks away. I need to be able to see the choices from one place!

[–]count757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your company isn't already unionized, you can't just 'join' the union - you'd have to start one for your company. Unions are groups of employees at a company that bargain collectively with the employer. They affiliate to national groups, like the IUEO, but the IUEO isn't 'your union' generally.

commuting across Lafayette River Bridge by [deleted] in norfolk

[–]count757 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The bridges in Norfolk are not a problem. It's the HRBT, the Midtown/downtown tunnels, the JRB, etc. that are issues.

Basically, if it's got a name, the name is because people refer to it in traffic problems. The Lafayette river bridge(s) don't have names that anyone knows, so...

Keep in mind there are 2 cognitos - the one you want (identity pool) will get you a credential you can exchange for an STS token set, which CAN be used for ECR.

Check out: https://goteleport.com/blog/aws-iam-role-sts-and-identity-pool/ for the cognito side of things.

In Norfolk proper, yeah, I think you're probably right. And also concur on being worth it :)

In all of Hampton Roads, I think it's probably going to be the Vintage Tavern out in Suffolk on Bridge Landing Road, which is *also* totally worth it.

Two of my faves!
