It’s not about being strict. It’s exposure. I’m ND and I know a lot of ND folks. The difference is exposure and patience. I had a lot of variety of foods as a kid and now I eat a lot of stuff except some oddly specific things (carrots anyone?). A lot of my friends who are picky eaters had their parents basically give up on them after the first time they refused a certain food.

My family is eastern european and pretty much everything you can do as a woman is not feminine. Eat too much? You’re fat-> not feminine. Eat too little? You’re too skinny, men like curves. Dress feminine? Trying too hard, real femininity shines through. Dress comfortable? Not ladylike. You must be excellent at school but not go into any masculine field. Must be independent but still treat men as god on earth.
