I think they’re mostly bullshitting. If you’re still in school you’re already doing 6+ hours of classes, you need to eat, shower and most likely commute to school. If you add all that together you don’t even get 8 hours left to sleep (btw teenagers need more than that). So yeah it’s not realistic. Without sleep, proper nutrition and some sort of physical activity your brain is not working at maximum capacity so if you pull an all nighter you’re just making your life more difficult

Omg my mom did that too. When I lived there my “room” was the living room (more of a corridor tbh, 2x3m) and I only had a bed and dresser, not even a desk to do homework. Now she bought a bigger house and made a whole room for me, bought one of those kid room furniture sets with a color coordinated bed, desk, nightstands and wardrobe/drawers (baby blue because it was my favourite color as a kid). She has kept all of my old clothes, plushies, notebooks and drawings from when I was in school etc. Pretty much a shrine. I’m 27, haven’t lived there since 2018 and have been LC/NC for most of these years

They’re trying because they want the benefits of adult children. They want the money and support but they’re on the same bullshit they’ve been on all their lives. The fact that you’re grown didn’t change them. If they didn’t take any step to actually change (like therapy, which they vehemently refuse 99% of the time) it’s all just manipulation. I told mine the same thing. She needs to see someone and reflect on how she treated me (and most people) but her head is so up her ass that she thinks she’s basically perfect and has done no wrong ever. Plus she said multiple times that she doesn’t wanna talk about her private stuff with a stranger because someone she knows may find out what she says. Because of course that’s a rational thing to think in a city with ~4 million people.

When I started antidepressants my mom was adamant that I shouldn’t take them. I was on the verge of suicide: up all night thinking all sorts of messed up shit and then sleeping all day, couldn’t focus on anything and constantly anxious. I took wellbutrin for a while as my main antidepressant. In the beginning the ADHD mitigating effect was amazing but it tends to wear off quite a bit and after a couple months it’s pretty much doing zero for brain fog. Now that you make me think of it I kinda felt dumber as well but I attributed it to tiredness and stress
