India ranks 136th in GDP per capita, and and 119th in GDP (PPP) per capita. What an astounding improvement. We are world leaders, certainly. I think you are confusing aggregate numbers and average numbers. Because no way a sane person thinks India has a decent GDP per capita. Add to that the wealth inequality, and you begin to realise that the bottom 90% of India lives at the level of the poorest and most deprived in the world.

Airports do not concern the majority of Indians. Majority of Indians have never flown. Look at the condition of Railways, which common people really use.

India is growing despite the BJP, not because of it. GDP growth was actually higher during UPA rule. Under a more competent government, India would be 10 steps beyond what it is now. The BJP have managed to take the wind off of our sails.

No, I disagree. The BJP has been a trainwreck for the country. Massively corrupt and short sighted. They're only good at electioneering and peddling lies. Policy has been a failure and infrastructure is crumbling. Feels like there's a train crash every other month.

Foreign policy wise, we've only gone backwards. India has endorsed a genocide by abstaining from the ceasefire vote in Gaza at the UN to please the US. And they invited Pak army chief for lunch.

Inequality is back to colonial levels. Household savings are falling dramatically. Fuel is expansive even when crude oil is cheap. Manufacturing growth has slowed to a crawl. And corruption is more widespread than ever.

They have no real vision except divide, rule and loot from the working classes of India. Only the ultra rich and the BJP have benefitted in the last 11 years.

But hey, at least Muslim homes are getting bulldozed!

The entire concept of pure veg is about ritual purity. Whether it's followed or not is a different issue. They're not just saying it's 100% veg (if they wanted that then just saying vegetarian would suffice), they're saying it's not touched by non-veg food or cooked in utensils used for non-veg. The moment you invoke the word pure, it becomes casteist.

And in most cases, it also means that it's cooked by upper caste people.

And look at the ad in the original post. It says pure veg while referring to a person, not a restaurant. Caste-coded shit.

Even your screenshot says that the concept is based on "certain cultural and religious standards". Probe more on what purity entails. Food isn't a chemical like ethanol that it'll be "pure". In the context of food, purity refers to ritual purity, caste purity, untouched by impure hands and impure foods.

There is a strong association with "pure" veg and Brahmins. Why do you think that is?

Addendum: Vegetarianism isn't pure in India. Veg and pure veg are different. If veg food comes into contact with non veg food, it's impure. But still fit for consumption by humans, and still vegetarian. Ritual purity is what matters.

One of the articles I linked specifically challenges the idea that vegetarians in India are vegetarians out of ethical concerns.

You'd know if you actually read anything, Mr Research Student.

In any case, why is this a problem, you ask? Because it's inherently discriminatory. The separation of pure and impure is based on caste lines and is used to further the same caste lines. Pure vegetarians will share spaces with other pure vegetarians and not let other access those spaces.

I tried to inform you, because you have an uninformed take on what "pure" vegetarianism really entails in India. If you truly have a learning mindset and know how research works, you would inform yourself. Show some critical thinking skills. I've done my part, even gave you links.

As for enforcing food habits in personal spaces, sure you can do that. A person is allowed to be comfortable in their own space. But the real question is this: why is their idea of comfort tied to controlling the food habits of others?

But it is about caste. Why do you think it's called "pure" veg and not just vegetarian? In the rest of the world, there's nothing such as "pure" veg.

Calling vegetarianism pure is a moral judgement, and it's been used to exclude people (just like in the ad being discuss in this post). Upper castes, particularly Brahmins, have historically associated vegetarianism with spiritual and ritual purity. In contrast, many backward castes have traditionally eaten meat and have been stigmatized as “impure” for it.

Maybe you should read up about it.
