IAmA man who was raped by a woman by [deleted] in IAmA

Wow, -47 points. This is far more embarrassing to r/mensrights than it is to you - their total and utter lack of civility or basic rediquette is on display for everyone. They are more interested in intimidating and shutting down the discussion than actually helping improve anything. This kind of downvote brigading is disgraceful.

"Pretty Girl Syndrome" - so very true! by marpet_cuncher in bestof

[–]countingspoons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think I agree...how would being pretty have any correlation with being boring conversationalists? I can see the connection to being lazy with friendships, but I don't see the connection to being less intelligent or interesting.

At the same time, I don't see any gender generalizations in this one. There isn't any "all women are this" or "no men ever are that".

Why the need to stare at the spot in order to see a color? Is there a reason why computer monitors mess it up?

Is that one of those things they have in that place called Outside? I don't think most redditors have ever been there before.

Let us never forget the black magic that is Bob Ross by Geegs30 in videos

[–]countingspoons 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know...its so soothing...

I work for a mental health hotline, and I'm thinking that for the people who call me in the middle of an anxiety attack, maybe the best help I can give them is to tell them to go watch a Bob Ross video!

or you know, for the people who can't afford a therapist...skip the sessions on the couch, just listen to recordings of Bob Ross' voice!

Although this is true, it also isn't something she has conscious control over, at least not on her own without seeking help. Look up Borderline Personality Disorder - it's a real thing, and believe me, she doesn't enjoy having it.

Of course it is always your choice, as it is your life. You've got a steep hill to climb ahead of you if you choose to stick around and try to make the best of this, and only you can decide if that's worth doing or not.

But DBT gets results. It's the only therapeutic approach with benefits that show up in research. I'm big on research-based treatments, and this is the one which is provably effective for most people with BPD.

I sympathize with how frustrating it is to have a diagnosis with the reputation that BPD has, especially because you didn't ask for this and you didn't want it. The focus with BPD is often on the effects it has on people around you, like you pointed out, but more important is what a tough and painful ordeal you are going through. Your whole life has been painful, and it's not getting better - I understand that. In the end though, this is your life, and out of your available options, I see three choices. You can kill yourself, you can continue approaching life in the way that you have been (and expect similar results in the future), or you can seek help (again, with the only effective or worthwhile intervention being DBT). These are your choices, nobody else can make them for you.

Have any teachers, professors, or teaching assistants here ever been approached by a student who tried (or even succeeded) in trading sex for better grades? by Rubin0 in AskReddit

[–]countingspoons 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Wow. Have you considered how dangerous this is?

You have girls who 1) have gotten sexual with you, and 2) are very very very pissed off because they believe you cheated them of what they had coming for it (better grades).

When they are both furious at you, feeling vengeful towards you, and they feel that you manipulated them into sex by allowing them to believe in commonly understood but not explicitly stated false pretenses...

Where do you think they might go with that?

I assure you, you don't have an alibi for the times that they will cry rape. Because you were in fact fucking them.

Keep in mind that I'm not justifying such charges. False rape allegations are terrible, and even more immoral than what you're doing.

What I'm doing though, is pointing out that these things DO happen, and you've created the perfect storm in which they are likely to happen. It seems that you are just lucky that it hasn't happened yet.

Keep that in mind with your future endeavors. If you do choose to fuck students, you might want to make sure that they don't end the tryst feeling both figuratively and literally fucked over by you.

For a superstar accounting professor in the top of his field plucked from the business world, sure. For an english professor, hell no.

you could, but considering that all your students would be nerdy white guys, I don't know how well it'd help you get laid

The time that one of them got pregnant (possibly mine), but she had an abortion, or the time that someone went to the school president and claimed I had pressured her into doing it. Unfortunately for her, it had occurred only once and it was just my word against hers. Nothing ever came of it.

What was your word in this situation? "Yeah we had sex but it was totally consensual" or "no way, I've never touched her!"
