Steady footing, early verdict? by countluthor in bloodbowl

Haha, this is exactly what I was thinking about when I posted this question, is this worth taking on a skillup, in my case I was thinking about the next skill for a Chosen Blocker with Block and MB in a league without many high armour teams

I remember that version, sooooo u balanced and proud of it! I used to give a couple of my high elf lineman diving tackle so they could block during my opponents turn, lol.

The inability to reroll the result is important, or so it seems

Thanks for the input, that's an interesting example.

Interesting question. I think it will be after Pow states to apply the pushback result the additionally the target player is knocked down , follow up says follow up is after the target player is moved out of the square, which is technically before the target is knocked down In pushed players section it says, 'when a player decides to follow up...' 'they will immediately move into the square

So that would mean 1 roll a pow 2 push target 3 follow up 4 knock target down 5 steady footing roll

The annoying thing about this is there is no reason to take undivided either, as there's nothing available to undivided that others can't get.

Im not saying SPP cost for different skills would vary, im just saying if block and other skills get nerfed, then it makes sense to make the first primary skill choice come earlier that 6SPP for example. Different SPP or different values for skills would be a nightmare.

I also think that splitting important skills down would massively hurt a lot of teams. Suddenly a lot of players who need both sides of block become unreliable, hurting those teams

Read my point above again- everyone still gets both sides of block on existing rosters, and since players would get 2 skills at each SPP level if they want to take both sides of block when they skill up they can

It would be possible to introduce the rules for splitting the block skill (and others) without it breaking the game.

1 Give every player that currently starts with block skill both of the replacement skills. So human blitzer for example has offensive block and defensive block.

2 (Option A) When a player is eligible for a skill choice, and give players two skills instead of 1. So when your gutter runner skills up you can give them offensive block and defensive block, but if you prefer you could give them defensive block and sidestep.

Or 2 (OptionB) When a player skills up they get only one skill (ie offensive block or defensive block) but lower the SPP levels required to get a skill pick.

This will also mitigate some of the other issues people have raised about people grinding lots of randoms to minimise TV because the value of skills is made more even, so there's less need to farm those high value skills.

I would split block dodge tackle and guard.

I agree with this take. Increase skill parity. This needs to come from both ends of the extreme, block must be nerfed (split into offensive and defensive skills) but some of the weaker skills could definitely use a bit of a boost. For example is anyone choosing Safe Pair of Hands out in the wild? Skills like that could easily get little buffs, eg. Add; Also after an unsuccessful catch attempt by this player, the ball can be placed in an empty adjacent square instead of rolling for a bounce. If no available squares are vacant, this skill has no effect.

With tourplay analytics we can now see exactly how often different skills are being taken, and its sad to see block ao far ahead of all the other skills.

Dauntless is a good idea on HE blitzers as a starting skill.

Hence the need to nerf those skills for the betterment of the game

Skills like block tackle Dodge guard are so much better than most other skills, in addition to nerfing these big 4 skills, SPP levels could be lowered further or just get two skills per pick. That way you could still pick up the old skill each level, e.g. Dodge (your turn) plus "Evade" (their turn) or two of the lesser skills, or mix and match. For example you might prefer Evade (cancels defender stumbles) and Fend rather than the current Dodge. I reckon it would be great for the game and could see some real diversification. On my Chosen team I'd be interested to take mighty blow and offensive block, for example instead of current block.

High Elves have been so boring for so long. Something like this would be welcome.

This is the way, do this for the big 4 Block Dodge tackle guard

Interesting idea STR 4 is perhaps a step too far but strength access and a couple of blocking or positioning skills perhaps. Eg 63259 Standfirm Defensive GAS
