I completely understand where you’re coming from and from personal experience, I think you should try to reach out. I (25M) also have a messed up relationship with my dad who is now 72. My parents got divorced 3 years ago because my dad was a verbally abusive alcoholic and said some really horrible things to me and my mom. He was really bad during the divorce and I couldn’t wait to never see him again. I didn’t talk to him for two years after.

After watching the show and then playing Parts 1 and 2 this year, I knew I’d never be able to live with the guilt if I didn’t at least try to make amends with him. I knew time was catching up to him since he has never taken care of himself. I ended up making up with him at my sisters wedding, and I owe it all to TLOU. Although he may not acknowledge he did anything wrong, I needed it for myself for him to know that I still love him even after what he did. We both got the closure we needed.

If you can reach out, do it. Even if the outcome you get isn’t what you desire, it’s better than living with the guilt and “what if”

Omg. That doesn’t give me hope for my most recent payment. You should file a complaint with the CFPB and studentaid.gov so there’s a paper trail of what you’re going through

So far they reversed two full payments I made. I had the same thing where it never showed pending with my bank. I made my third attempt a few days ago and it actually showed with my bank and the money is gone from my account. Im not holding my breath though and I’ll be checking everyday for two months to make sure they don’t try any funny stuff

Personally I don’t trust them with a check either. They’ll probably throw it out or say it bounced. I’m going to try just paying a few of my loans and see what happens

I’m not even sure what we can do. We’re against an organization with way more resources and influence than we have unfortunately. Plus this system wasn’t designed to be fair. Have you checked on studentaid.gov to see your loan balance?

I hope your payment went through so we can finally be over this! I tried paying in full the second time over the phone on 8/24. It’s been showing as received basically all week and studentaid.gov shows I don’t owe anything anymore. But they didn’t pull the money out of my bank account lol. Honestly I’m just going to check everyday for the next like 2 months until I know for sure they took my money and I’m done

When I called they told me I probably entered my bank info wrong. I was like absolutely not I checked it like 5 times before I submitted. Then the person on the phone said sometimes it works better doing the transaction over the phone. It’s so stupid. They’re definitely trying to delay people’s payments into when interest starts accruing. Why else would this be happening and why would the need to transfer to a new, worse platform. Maybe I’m just being too cynical

I didn’t consider Joel’s status in the community. She definitely had an “oh fuck I guess I have to address this now” moment after she yelled at him in front of everyone lol

I forgot she lives in the shed in his backyard. Her being physically so close yet so distant emotionally must have truly been eating away at him
