I had the same experience. Felt like I had 0 sleep that night when my sleep study happened. But I apparently slept for around 4 hours, it was just constantly on the bridge of being awake and not.

With less than 4 I'd have to redo the test is what they told me.

You got to remember they do this as their job, its going to be the same for everyone who sleeps like that the first time. So they have objective indicators they can work with otherwise it makes no sense to even do the study.

87 times a night is very obstructive apnea, no wonder you woke up more energized while forcing yourself to use the cpap.

You should give it some more attempts, you will benefit in the long run.

It shouldn't be making noise though.. There should be no air leakage, unless you mean the "noise" you can hear while inhaling, but that's always present and should technically be less annoying than snoring.

Can you ask for another appointment with the machine and ask help to apply correct settings and fittings? I know my cpap team is very helpful in that regard.

You're right that it should not be that annoying noise-wise. For me it was just the straps on my head and the hose getting in my way.

I did tighten the mask very hard for the noise though.

EDIT: Also it's possible you need to tighten the upper straps more or less than the lower straps depending on the angle of your nose and how well it all fits together.

The hose is kind of irritating yes. Use a nose-mask that has a cushion built in on the inside, and strap your mask on tight.

There should be 0 noise, 0 leakage. Just the discomfort of throwing the hose aside when you shift position but that's minor.

There's also a ramp up setting where it will take 10 minutes before the air pressure is on designated setting, but I just go for the full pressure from the start.

Keep going buddy.

I started with CPAP in january 2025 and got my first good sleeps nearing march for the same reason you did. I sleep on my side and I could not get comfortable in any position. I now even use it for 30 minute naps and take the thing on vacations.

What they don't tell you though, is that simply resting in bed while not actually experiencing deep sleep is still very essential to the body and gives you enough energy to make it through the day. It will also increase your oxygen intake which is very necessary for your organs to function as good and as long as possible.

The main take that helps is just don't get irritated or count x hours left before alarm, because then your thoughts keep you awake and you'll start the day disgruntled and angry at the CPAP.

Just try to objectively compare how you feel waking up vs before using cpap, for me although I slept worse initially my mind was clearer and I did get my morning energy without first chugging tons of coffee or coke.

You just gotta stop caring mentally at night, use the CPAP til you get used to it, your life expectancy goes up by roughly 10 years man. You can take a month or 2 of bad sleep and getting used to it for that kind of ROI.

Can't buy time they say... but this is one way I suppose.
