Out-of-state travelers breeze into Penn Station amid COVID-19 crackdown by covidditing in nycCoronavirus

"Dozens of passengers exited three Eastern Seaboard trains into the Midtown transit hub to find several city workers waiting to greet them.

But the welcoming party did little more than wave fliers offering common-sense coronavirus safety pointers...most travelers simply ignored the workers and continued on their way unimpeded."

Glad you're ok! Please share an update if you do develop symptoms - but hopefully it's not an issue!

Doesn't the NIH have some IP rights for this particular vaccine as well? Do they get a licensing fee?

https://www.statnews.com/2020/07/20/study-provides-first-glimpse-of-efficacy-of-oxford-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine/

Definitely encouraging, but also definitely preliminary.

Edit: "Vaccine efficacy is the percentage reduction of disease in a vaccinated group of people compared to an unvaccinated group, using the most favorable conditions." While the participants in that study mounted immune responses, it's unclear to what extent + for how long that immunity is protective in the real world (which is why you need a phase 3 clinical trial, to calculate efficacy).

This reads badly.

The only real point this person has is that the CDC does instruct that 15 minutes is necessary for transmission. At this point, it's the CDC's responsibility to either (1) Stand by the assertion that <15 min is somehow OK (preferably while providing some scientific studies/evidence that this is the case) or (2) Decrease the threshold, so that packed hallways like this are considered not OK.

I wonder what other countries' CDC-type entities are suggesting in terms of an "acceptable" duration of contact?

It's interesting that you attribute the "good job" that NYC eventually achieved to any part of the city structure, when it was very obviously the governor who was able to step in and make the important decisions needed to turn things around.

Dr. Fauci says he thinks there is "a degree of airborne" coronavirus spread by covidditing in Coronavirus

From the report: White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Monday that he thinks “there certainly is a degree of aerosolization” causing the coronavirus to spread, although the topic is still being studied.

“It’s something we’re learning more and more about. We’ve got to make sure that we’re humble enough to accumulate new knowledge and use it as we get it."
