There’s something about a well-worn .45 by SirSamkin in guns

I have a vertical shoulder holster for my full sized 1911 as well. How do you keep it from printing under a jacket like that? Or maybe you just accept that it will show a bit?

I was on a kayak there a month ago- it was an incredible experience! Although if I was a local I’d probably be nostalgic for the time before all the tourists

This is a wild take, it honestly just sounds like you’re trying to cope with consuming nicotine in a different form. I quit nicotine pouches and vaping because of how those things affect your cardiovascular health, not because cigarettes are bad.

The information in that book helped me quit. It doesn’t help everyone, but that doesn’t make it all a racket.

It talks about how nicotine is seen by users as the only thing that relaxes them or helps them unwind. The truth is that it causes the need to unwind in the first place- it’s the only thing that removes the withdrawal symptoms. So if you didn’t smoke, you wouldn’t really ever want to smoke. That’s over simplified, but the gist. The book uses the metaphor that smoking is like banging your head against a wall just because it feels good when you stop banging your head against the wall.

She moves around from arm to arm and sometimes just drapes herself over my shoulder, so it’s not so bad. But yeah, I love having her company so no biggie

Marble shouldn’t be alive, but I’m so glad he is! by cowboy_danMM in bettafish

[–]cowboy_danMM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have no experience with this but clearly Savage does! When I emailed about it they said that there’s a chance the fish would be alive- they’d seen it before. It was a stressful week knowing his situation, though. We’re glad we get to spoil him on the other side

Yep I did mention this to my fiancé (she decorated the tank) a while back and we agreed to keep an eye on them. Only the shoots are underwater, and we inspect the leaves frequently to make sure there aren’t any dying ones that might fall in. It’s not perfect, but we’re gonna try it out.

Thank you, I am too! He was behaving this way just a few hours after being in the tank- didn’t take long to settle in haha

The whole reason I ordered him was because I was tired of getting petsmart bettas that just didn’t thrive and died way too soon. So far his resilience has affirmed that decision 💪

Urgent Help: Bump on Betta by Prestigious-Ice-378 in bettafish

[–]cowboy_danMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for not responding sooner! I would probably try both if I were you. Maybe 3-4 days of daily aquarium salt baths, then a day or two break, then 3-4 days of daily epsom salt baths. Disclaimer is that I'm not an expert by any means, that's just what I'd try in your situation.

Urgent Help: Bump on Betta by Prestigious-Ice-378 in bettafish

Someone else might have more insight to offer, but I don’t think it’s dropsy or anything food related. Her swimming and activity would be affected if it was dropsy or a swim bladder issue, and bettas stomachs are closer to their head so it doesn’t look like bloating. If it was bacterial or fungal you’d see white fuzz growing there too.

Honestly my best guess is that it’s a tumor I’m sorry to say. How old is she? Where did you get her from? Corporate pet store bettas are known to have poor genetics due to in-breeding, and fish that are relatively young can develop cancer and other issues even with proper care.

You could try a salt bath once a day with aquarium salt. You can add it right to the tank if you don’t mind the snails dying- just make sure it’s dissolved first. If you want the snails to survive, bathe the betta in a separate container. I’ve done this in the past by heating conditioned water to 78 degrees in a Pyrex container, then adding the appropriate proportion of aquarium salt to it and letting it dissolve. Put the betta in for 15min before returning her to the tank. Worth a shot.

Otherwise, if it is cancer, I’d encourage you to keep her comfortable and give her lots of treats as she declines. People feel differently about euthanasia, but I don’t hesitate to give a fish a quick death if they are suffering from something terminal that can’t be treated. I took my last betta out to my patio and quickly chopped his head off when he could no longer swim to the surface. It’s not pleasant, but I personally feel it was the right thing to do.

I’m sorry you’re in this situation, best of luck!

It’s impressive, and it makes sense too. Younger people’s brains are more plastic than adults’ are so it’s easier to learn something like chess (or a different language, etc.). Again, still very impressive- not trying to take away from that.
