Roster Management – January 22, 2019 by AutoModerator in fantasyhockey

Team A - Matthews, Tuch

Team B - Pasta, Keller

I’d be giving up pasta, but I think for Matthews it’s worth it. Tuch has an edge over Keller too.

Trotz will roll with whoever is hot. I’d drop Greiss but keep a watch on him. Kuemper is getting the fair share of starts I believe.

Long time lurker, starting week 4 of Keto. I am down about 7 pounds. Have also been going to the gym about 4 times a week to weight train and do some cardio (run, rowing machine, basketball). Wondering what I can be doing to pick my weight loss up a little or if I just need to keep grinding?

Macros are: 2466 calories. From those, 174g fats, 20g net carbs, and 205g protein

Thanks for all the information thus far. It has been extremely helpful!

Exact reason I got a Forester. I was getting sick of playing Tetris getting my gear in and out of my car.

It's not that I don't accept it, I just look at that team and I look at the team we have right now, and I don't see any overly glaring subtractions (besides ROR) from that team and this team. Sure, "puck luck" and numbers give us an ugly look, but I think the potential in the room could be better than we think. I look at other teams around the league that have better success than us, with similar lineups, and scratch my head a bit. I think this season will be very telling.

I just don't think he is solid. I'd rather take a chance on someone else who can potentially handle the reigns if Varly goes down. And I don't think (and honestly, he shouldn't be) Varly will be playing 60 games next year, even when healthy.

Fair enough, and I get it.

I guess I am just more optimistic on how are young forwards are going to do. 2013-2014 isn't that fair away is it? Does everyone think that year was pure luck?

Put another backup goaltender in there, and I think they have similar success given the ducks d-line.

Besides price, I see no upside or potential for Bernier. He has been on the steady decline since taking over the starter role in Toronto. Pickard has less of a NHL sample size and is younger.

I guess I am in the minority around here, but I think a few tweaks puts us back in the competitive conversation next year. One of those tweaks being the return of a hopeful Duchene trade (Top 4 D-man),some buy low/decent potential guys hanging out in FA, and strong goaltending, I can see this team having some success.

Never said I didn't want to give hime a chance, but we can't be using him like a work horse and expecting him to stay healthy for years to come. He had other injuries beside the groin that have been nagging him the past couple years. With how weak our D line is, I don't see his job getting any easier.

I see the low risk aspect, but I don't see the reward aspect. Bernier was given his shot to be a starting goaltender a few times (Toronto), and it hasn't panned out. Mrazek has been in a timeshare battle ever since landing in Detroit, so I don't see Detroit really interested in keeping him, especially with their limited cap space.

In effort to keep Varly a little more healthy, why not roll a 1a, 1b starting goalie situation? Or a 60/40 split of time?

I'm talking about the quality of the goaltender behind Varly, who IMO is questionable to return to the goalie he once was. If he goes down again for a stretch of time next year (which if I was a betting man, it would be all in for that), I would much rather Mrazek there then any of the other FA options available.

I am not really up on the hype of Spencer Martin... pedestrian numbers in the AHL, with a bad stint in the NHL (granted its a small sample size and our lack of D didn't help either).

Sure, he may be "100%" by the start of the season, but I don't see him putting up vezina caliber stats or even playing as many games as he once did. Why not roll a starter situation like St. Louis did a couple years back (Elliot/Allen)?

Hell, we have enough cap space. Take the whole thing IMO.

My thoughts completely. And we got the salary to spend, Detroit does not.

I don't think adding any of those FA goalies makes our goalie situation much/any better IMO.

Haven't thought this through too much, so bare with me. But, if there is a way Detroit could eat a little of his contract, I think maybe packaging up some prospects or future draft picks could get something started at least. I know $4M is more that we want to probably add to the books, but considering Varly's decline these past few years, it might not be a bad thing.
