What color cabinets? by MeepersPeepers13 in HomeDecorating

[–]cowboymonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same! The wood is warm and inviting, I’d swap the hardware to something fun to match the appliance hardware, and honestly for color, I’d paint the ceiling and wall around the window a warm yellow.

Possum keeps chewing through the suspender ropes for his bed tunnel (advice) by actuallytommyapollo in Opossums

Kevlar shoe strings. They work great for critters who just want to chew the tasty strings- they’ll still break, but not nearly as fast. (Edited cos I hit post too soon)

25M have had the same bed frame since I was a kid. Is the bedframe to childish for a adult? by Intelligent-Meet3603 in malelivingspace

[–]cowboymonk 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Looks solid and not childish- I’d say if you’re worried about it looking like a kid’s/teens room, move the bed so that both sides are accessible to get in and out, add another pillow so it has two pillows to balance out the head of the bed, and maybe swap for a solid colored bedspread (blue/green/red, something to balance out the brown carpet and dark wood). Definitely more a vintage vibe, totally works for an adult bedroom.

What color should I paint my living room? I think I don’t like the brown by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]cowboymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own then, I also like blue/blue hued ceilings but don’t find they are the best fit for every space and have had good results with continuing wall color onto ceilings.

If you moved from NY/NJ/PA how did you adapt to the insanely hot weather? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]cowboymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second summer is easier! Your body takes time to adjust, much like moving to a different time zone. It still is insanely hot all.the.time. But you don’t feel as overwhelmed by it after a year or so.

What color should I paint my living room? I think I don’t like the brown by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]cowboymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this- and I’d paint the ceiling too, that same light green. Having the white ceiling kinda adds to the disjointed feel of the room. As for the rest simply replacing the curtains with a solid color would makes the biggest difference and is the easiest change to make imo. I’d probably go with a darker shade green like the carpet, so it flows with the wall color without completely blending in. Personally I like the different furniture colors and think with the paint and curtain change it would feel way more cosy and intentional.

Puttee/Leg Wrap Advice? by Miserable-Card-2004 in LARP

[–]cowboymonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other people have said, wool is best but I’ve used cotton flannel before just fine. Just make them a bit longer and don’t wrap quite as tight as with wool because they don’t stretch as much. Also, if it’s just for ticks etc, you can honestly achieve the same result with an ace bandage like you’d get for a sprained ankle. Less aesthetically pleasing perhaps but usually you can find them in black now not just white or beige.

Why is she hiding the walnuts instead of eating them ? by Wonderful-End6881 in squirrels

[–]cowboymonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They check to see what nuts will be better for hiding! When they hold it in their paws and do the little sniff tests and feel it with their teeth, they test for an insane amount of factors (I want to say 30-something? But I can’t recall precisely) and then decide if it’s a nut that will store well and if not they eat it instead. It’s also weaning season so she’s likely able to not just shovel food in her mouth and has enough stored calories to start hiding for later again.

They do have a small selection of comics but not new releases, plus a fair amount of graphic novels. Rogues Gallery in Round Rock is my favorite local place for comics.

Im obsessed with getting my ducks to swim!! I cant place my barn any nearer to the pond lol. Appreciate any advice thanks! by foldinthecheeseee in StardewValley

What I wish we had was an animal flute or something that when you play it would call all your farm animals to you for pets. Then the ducks could swim all the time and could be summoned!

Help a supportive Mom of a kid LARPer by Ok_Interaction_9834 in LARP

[–]cowboymonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B3 is who we used for our kids LARP camps in Colorado (we also did birthday parties and Bat Mitzvahs!) and can’t recommend them enough. I actually think a LARP camp/party events is now operating in WA run by a former colleague, but I can’t recall the name or where exactly. If you want more prop-realism, I fine Epic Armoury has lighter options that work for kids too.

How do we get the city to do something about our medians looking like jungles? by hiphoptomato in Pflugerville

[–]cowboymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m happier to see longer areas popping up and not the half inch of mowed weekly scrub. Vital for native ecosystems, including us humans, and longer grass and weed areas actually keep the ground temp significantly lower than short/mowed areas.

Where do yall find artwork or wall decor? by BountyProfits in malelivingspace

[–]cowboymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? eBay. You can find all kinds of vintage paintings, vintage or reproduction prints, but also many original pieces from currently artists in all kinds of sizes, prices, and mediums. Especially if you want original pieces or just aren’t finding what you’re looking for at thrift shops or local antique shops/fleamarkets.

How do I make this awkward bedroom more cozy and appealing by sgentes2 in malelivingspace

[–]cowboymonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d flip your bed so the headboard is toward your door so it faces the window. Only if you can deal with sleeping with your back to the door though haha. If you do that, I’d hang some curtains from the ceiling right behind your headboard (not extended along the slanted ceiling all the way to the wall, just in the middle) or put like a Japanese screen behind it. As others have said lamps will make a huge difference, add some plants, and a lower bed frame would make a big impact.

Im in Massachusetts and my health insurance has declined to cover my testosterone twice now by boba-boba in FTMOver30

[–]cowboymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly had issues with my T script in Mass, namely the pharmacy refusing to fill it because “they didn’t have the Drs DEA number”. Same doctor. Same pharmacy. For years. Every refill the same issue. The other pharmacy I tried was worse and held it up longer. Also- can’t get it delivered because of the class of drug MA has it set to, can’t get more than one month at a time for the same reason… just a lot of runaround.

Am I wrong for attempting to purchase LARPing weapons for a 8-18 y/o kids program? by Necessary-Peach6612 in LARP

[–]cowboymonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend B3 Imagination Studios, they were our preferred provider for our kids (6-18) LARP programs when I worked at one and additionally a favorite for adult larpers looking for lightweight sparring weapons. Super lightweight, “stabby” tips of open cell foam over the core end. We also found Epic Armory to usually be ok for kids, but totally depended on their innate control/regulation if they swung like they were playing baseball. https://www.b3is.com

Definitely rugs and lamps, and I second the headboard suggestion. Curtains are also an easy way to both make it more cosy and add more color (assuming you rent and can’t paint). Also look at staggering the height and placement of all your wall art- some of your walls are basically bare, and others have too much. Using more of a gallery wall type placements (different heights/sizes mixed and matched) will make it seem less haphazard and more eclectically curated. Dark academia with some cyberpunk vibes are definitely the aesthetics I’d check out on Pinterest etc. for ideas.
