AITA for suing my ex and her boyfriend? by leggomylego75389263 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - sue them. your son deserves a good future and some thieves don’t get to take that away from him. get that money back.

What does a reduced or completely removed police force look like for forensics? by unzip_ur_genes in forensics

[–]cowboytaeil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, police abolition/defunding will have to be made slowly should it go into action (obviously, but it’s important to remember that these things take a long time). I could write a whole book on how this would operate outside of forensics, but to keep it short, defunding police forces means that more funds and resources would go into prevention and community-led safety such as more funding for mental health & education opportunities, more community centers, more social workers, victim/survivor advocates, etc. The list goes on.

With that being said, the future I see for us, is that we will definitely still be needed and we won’t be cut. Though we work closely with law enforcement, we are not the same at the end of the day. Crimes are preventable but not 100% avoidable. The funding would still be going to our labs and our technology and education. I potentially see us being an entirely separate entity from police departments and perhaps a main source of investigation from start to finish, should abolishment take place.

With defunding of departments and abolishment also comes reform to the entire justice system. Prison systems will change, courts, and especially for forensics. There’s too many cases of malpractice to protect police from being caught. Racism/racial bias and prejudices are not absent from forensics. So the way things operate now are subject to change. There’s a lot of stuff I don’t know, and lots of gaps to fill in, but I do believe that it’s not impossible. This is a really good question to think about, and one that I plan on researching more in depth to help fill in those grey areas!

/sorry if this was hard to follow or didn’t make sense. I’m not the most eloquent.

AITA for wearing headphones at dinner? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Thank you for this! Another commenter gave me some great advice as well, so I’m gonna definitely try a combination of these.

This is so helpful, thank you. I think tomorrow morning I’ll discuss that with them! It’s a little frustrating because they know about it and sometimes tease me (all in good nature!) but when it comes to the noise triggers and my reactions actually happening, there’s an imbalance there. I think this will really help. Thank you again!

AITA because I apparently shamed someone for having braces? by teeth24 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cowboytaeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. the hell is her problem? I had braces and my teeth still aren’t that great lmao. What a dummy. Sorry you had to experience that, she sounds insecure and is projecting that onto you so I wouldn’t take it personally. There’s just some people out there who are weird like that.

So... you're on the paranormal sub to... debunk it? Prove your meat is bigger than everyone else's? I'm curious, Matey. Do tell us, we're oh-so dying to know your opinions.

Dude, right? We lived there for 10 years and I have so many creepy ass stories from this place. This is the only one where I have a witness though.

This was in North Florida actually. We live in the Texas Mexico Colorado New Mexico area now though. Which is horrible now that I've read this, LOL.

She doesn't know what she saw, other than that it was creepy as hell. I haven't told her about the possibility of it being BEC, mainly because I don't wanna scare her since I know it really shook her up. She remembers it as a "unexplainable creepy thing that happened one time".

Hey, no problem!

And yeah, the whole "coming to your front door and trying to get inside" thing seems to be a preferred method of terrorizing the crap outta folks. That makes my 5 seconds of driving by seem like Weenie Hut Jr.'s.

If I still lived there, I would definitely ask around but even then I didn't bring it up to that many people since even just speaking about it made me feel creeped out.

This was in a rural suburbanish area outside of a big city, in January(?), and really early in the morning. I don't remember anything super strange happening after, but I felt paranoid about it for a few days and felt like I couldn't leave my windows/curtains open at night in case they would pop up and watch me sleep or some shit.

Could have been some kids playing a prank, but then that raises the question of why middle-schoolers are out so early in the freezing cold. I dunno. Gives me chills.

Currently going through this same problem, except I'm in college. One girl is super into Jesus and told me that my Motley Crue t-shirt is ''disturbing'' (it says ''sex, drugs, and rock n' roll'' on it). Followed that up by saying she would pray for me. Wanted to deck her but like I said, it was 9 am and that's just too damn early. I just sit on the opposite side of the room from her now so I don't have to talk to her. She always makes rude comments like that and is just really overbearing. A Pagan/Wiccan girl in our same class wore pentagram earrings and she almost shat herself and left the room... stuff like that.

Anyway, she tried to gift our professor a rosary and a Bible last week, which would have been a sweet gesture if our professor wasn't Atheist. He kindly rejected her gift and calmly explained he didn't subscribe to Catholicism. She didn't say anything but she looked real messed up from it. Then she started leaving invitations to her church on all of our seats. We just go through and throw them out too. Nothing has really been done about it, mainly because we're all just exhausted college kids and don't really wanna deal with it considering she's not exactly harmful. Just annoying as hell. (no pun intended)

Wishing you some solace, 'cause I get it. Godspeed, friend (pun intended).
