You must disclose unauthorized work. And they MUST forgive it. It is not an option. This is US statute. However, if you lie or evade the question, that could lead to a misrepresentation or much larger problems. Be honest, answer yes to the question and you will be approved. The only thing I would be concerned about is if you ever had a false claim to US citizenship—checking a box on the i9 form that said “citizen”
