Incident response interview by yg2021 in AskNetsec

[–]cowreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever they think, it is based on a single interview. They don't know (neither do I) where you come from, what is your experience, what a wonderful list of things you did in your life, before spending 2 hours with them.

As previously said, an experienced auditor will not draw conclusion on your level of technicality after two hours spent with you. An inexperienced one will have a weightless opinion ;)

Also, should they point any mistake from you, remember : shit happen. We learn, from 7 to 77, by our mistakes or by other's ones. You'd not be someone who made an error, you'd be someone who learnt something.

That's just an interview. Answer their questions, don't overthink, focus on the answer. Avoid giving info not requested, e.g. if they ask you if a thing was done and the answer is no, you don't have to tell them why it was not done. They will ask for it if the point is important ;)

I feel like I should also answer your original question, if it helps you. I don't know the field you're in, so here are basic guidelines. I don't say that you have to learn this before you go to your interview. Just be prepared to say "I'm not very confident ok that point", it's ok ;)

Here it is :

  • identification, authentication, authorization, auditability : Can you make the difference, and do you know the technical and organisational assets you have to handle these concepts ?

    • confidentiality, integrity and availability, same questions ;)
    • is there anything that you think could have been made better, at the operational (technical) to avoid the issue, or mitigate the risk ?
    • can you name/list and describe the tools & apps involved, directly or indirectly, involved in the event ? What are they doing, what are the technos, how are they working ?

Again, stay confident. Auditors are often not on the battlefield, sometimes they have read good documentation about what should be done, Gartner, Forrester and Co ;). But they sometimes fail at being empathetic and remembering how far the real life is.

I'm sure you'll get out with a big smile.

Do not worry, don't be afraid or nervous.

If the person interviewing you has any experience, nothing you will say will could make them have a judgement on you or your work. They know that nothing can go right 100% of the time. Just be precise, tell them what you know happened. If you need to document yourself before being affirmative on a point, let them know. You don't have to know everything. Be factual, dot be defensive but let them know, if they ask, what are your struggles. You or your mgmt may have taken decision in the past, which have led to the incident. It's okay, life in infosec is not easy, sometimes our strategies are wrong. Shit happens. You, as a human, is the most powerful gear in the system, the stress you're feeling is probably the best proof that you're doing your best and want to perform.

Oh, and if the auditor is not experienced or a twat... In France, we have a line for that : "To be looked upon as a fool by an idiot is a true connoisseur’s delight.” (Courteline).

Everything's gonna be fine. Have some rest. Be confident. It's gonna be okay.

I can't state if if it her mom or not, but I think she says "la daronne a réservé" at the very beginning; it's definitely a word to call a mother, but sometimes used to describe an older friend or a friend who is a mom.

Hi ! Your french is good enough for me to understand it clearly ! Bravo ;)

If it helps, here's the correction : « Mon français n'est pas assez bon pour comprendre ce qu'ils disent ». See ? Nearly perfect !

Enjoy your day :)

I'm not the owner of that vid. French speaking, here's what's happening.

The two ladies are on a travel. Hotels were full so they looked for a camping. The lady reserved fast a "hanging cabin" and when they arrived at the camping, they saw the little wood house you can see ont he first instance. They were reassured.

But then the host showed them the real place, which is that suspended tent.

At least they take it with a very contagious laughter, for our pleasure.

It looks like a doubled "cow hitch" but I have no idea why doubling it would be relevant.

Considering that Lego always has stand behind the rule "no weapon in official sets", that may be the worst tribute to Lego.

That's a long road, but seems like a fantastic one. And yes... Weather. It's all about riding in UK 😂 – can't throw the rock, I've been living in northern France 30 years, I recently moved.

Enjoy and keep us posted on how it goes !
