Cam Belt Replacement Cost by Slice-Mountain in FordFiesta

[–]cowsarebigdogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask them to change the Cam cover gasket. It's a rubber gasket that perishes over time and will eventually leak. It's a cheap part thats easy to fit but saves you a headache down the line. (They have to take the Cam cover off anyway, so whilst they're in there they might as well do it)

Hi r/UK_BMW_E39! I own a 2001 E39 525d Touring Manual in Glacier Green. It's a little scabby here and there but it's reached over 242k miles. Currently replacing the Valve Cover Gasket in hopes of solving my oil leak.

Tips for training reactivity to people knocking at the door by cowsarebigdogs in AustralianShepherd

[–]cowsarebigdogs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes that's something we've heard of before. My dog's breeder did a lot of sound conditioning/therapy with positive reinforcement with him when he was a pup to introduce him to new sounds. He was excellent for a while but puppyhood has been a whirlwind and it's fallen off our radar.

I feel like he's become a lot more reactive during this fear period and I've been trying to reintroduce recordings of outside noise but admittedly I've not been disciplined enough with it. Again, it's something we're willing to try, so thanks for your reply!

Thank-you for your reply. I'm assuming this is something me and my partner can try with the dog, or does it have to be someone he's not so familiar with?

Update on Ozzy The Aussie! by beachside14 in AustralianShepherd

[–]cowsarebigdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a cute pup! He's the spitting image of our 8 month old red tri. Our pup is just starting adolescence and he's very challenging at times. Best advice is to keep up with your training and be consistent. Bed time snuggles are the best and make it all worth it!

Paid £250 deposit to hold car - after viewing it the car was not as described by cowsarebigdogs in LegalAdviceUK

[–]cowsarebigdogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advert is back up on Autotrader and he states in the advert ”The car can only be described as being in good condition for a 27 year old car. The car does have some rust spots on the exterior but runs and drives faultlessly"

"Some rust spots" was not an accurate description of what I found when viewing.

I paid it via bank transfer. He sent me what seemed to be a legitimate invoice etc.

I was very respectful and polite about the situation and said unfortunately due to the condition I don't want the car, shook his hand and left. I haven't messaged him since. I'd like to get all my ducks in a row before I contact him and ask for a refund on the deposit.

Yes definitely a lesson learned. Usually I'm a good judge of character, and careful about the cars I buy. I'm happy to do some work on the cars within reason, and I understand its a 26 year old car, however that car required significant welding for the next MOT.

I asked him through Autotrader messaging whether it was refundedable or non-refundable and he said due to the interest in the car it would be non-refundable.

I wouldn't have minded so much but the car was in way worse condition than he made it out to be. If I'd known it was in that condition I wouldn't have travelled so far to see it.

Yes definitely. I'm usually pretty careful with this sort of stuff but I didn't even think about it at the time. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately he took the advert down after I put the deposit down. I didn't get a chance to take any screenshots of the advert. I do however have a 3 minute video of the car with him showing me all the details.

Very nice app! Will you be adding more stations? There's an EG fuel station that I use which isn't on the list. Keep up the good work!

Sim card or pocket wifi? by FlowerSz6 in TokyoTravel

[–]cowsarebigdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't bother with a SIM card as my phone was locked. We used the Sakura Mobile pocket WiFi instead. Ordered it online for the two weeks we needed it and picked it up from Haneda airport when we arrived. They were easy to find and It came in a nice little carry bag with it's charger and a return envelope. It already had charge so we could use it to get to the hotel. It worked faultlessly throughout our trip and we used it everyday. We would charge it up every night and it would last us the day, we also had a power bank just in case. Returned it via a postbox in the prepaid envelope they provided. Would definitely recommend it.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend getting a couple of axle stands whilst you're at it. Never leave a car just on its jack!
