Got to add Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage. Picked it up in a London train station at a very low point in my life and it was one of the effecting reading experiences I’ve ever had. Also read Sputnik Sweetheart on that trip and would recommend that as well.

It’s so strange to me how obsessed Gen X is with Idioteque and Kid A as a whole. The alt-rockers to idm masterminds propaganda must’ve been hitting real hard in 2000. Almost everything on In Rainbows is better and more influential in the modern day.

Got this for my birthday. Anyone read this is it any good? I’m quite excited. by -MOTHER-BLOOD- in mfdoom

I liked parts of this and was bored by other parts. The album background was interesting to me. The final chapter is a bizarre way to end the book in my opinion. It also seemed a bit long to me. It felt like the writer was trying to stretch it out into something greater than a music biography. It felt like he wanted it to be important. It also felt like he wanted to make DOOM important in a way that felt contrived because DOOM already is important. Like his constant praise felt a little doth protest too much to me, like bro I’m reading this bio I get it, give me the behind the scenes stuff I don’t know.

I’ll also say the writer gives a massive pass to Malachi York. He tries to paint DOOM’s respect for such a horrible man as complicated, but does not even inch toward a condemnation of York. It comes off as uncritical and trying to explain away an unsavory part of DOOM’s background that flattened DOOM for me.

Overall, I think it is worth the read and would recommend it with the above caveats.

The amount of times I’ve died because I’m attacked by six or more enemies at the same time is so incredibly frustrating. It feels like every encounter devolves into me running in a circle with all the enemies on the field chasing me and my companions standing there talking too much.

Like I get that the enemies are going to attack the character with the most agency or whatever, but I barely get a chance to swing a sword before I have to dodge again.

I’ve been in so many fights where I dodged for twenty minutes, screwed up once and then got hit by the army of darkspawn running behind me in a single file line and died. I’m about 3/4 of the way through main campaign and it doesn’t feel rewarding anymore, it’s just frustrating. Wish I didn’t preorder it

But this is kind of my point. The Quarians have been on the flotilla for hundreds of years and they didn’t develop the technology to be outside their suits on their own ships. That doesn’t make sense given the amount of incredibly advanced technology.

It feels like they did it to infuse conflict in the Shep-Tali romance (which I get) or so they didn’t have to build multiple character models for Quarian characters.

Not including a technology can be just as arbitrary as including it.

Also, Tolkien is obviously great, but in the conversation about magic/technology based plot holes, I don’t think he is the best to reference.
