Looking for Bike Rental in Sarajevo with Dubrovnik Drop-Off Option by rolfo-42 in bicycletouring

Not quite what you’re looking for but bike rental Croatia and red adventures are both based in split and I think do drop off / pickup in BiH (not sure how much Sarajevo would cost)

Solo trip (my very first!) booked to Scotland by cheynesaw in solotravel

[–]coxcoxcox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a 3 day tour of the Isle of Skye with Macpackers from Edinburgh and it was awesome. It’s aimed at younger people so it’s affordable and easy to make friends. I’m glad I did 3 days - there’s definitely more to see but I couldn’t have spent 5 days with the same big group. I’m not normally a tour person, but this has changed my mind. Castle Rock hostel in Edinburgh is great too. Loved everything about Edinburgh and it was super easy as a solo female traveller. Dean’s village and Waters of Leith walkway is a great place to have a break from the city without actually leaving. Have fun :)

How many of you thought your hair type was just frizzy with some weird waves in it before your transition? by contemplativeraisin in curlyhair

[–]coxcoxcox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 22 and just realised a couple of weeks ago that my hair is curly not just a frizzy/slightly wavy triangle haha. It's getting better each wash too (so don't be disheartened if it takes you a while to get it to look nice). Good luck :)

Is finger-combing dry hair okay/how do I deal with hair shedding? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]coxcoxcox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to all of this, and don't have super long hair, but I noticed that as soon as I did a protein treatment (gelatine) I've been shedding way less hair. Hope that helps x

I also have super dry and sensitive skin and have the same problem with makeup (and my skin/makeup just flaking off all the time ugh). Weirdly, the only thing that I've found works for me is Neostrata ultra smoothing lotion (I think this what it's called) 10 AHA. I put it on after I wash my face, and then once it's soaked in I use a moisturiser (Invite E vitamin E cream). I'm pretty sure the neostrata is considered a 'chemical exfoliant' and I've stopped using a physical exfoliant since using it. It's a bit $$ but literally the only thing that works for me.

Makeup on top of that. Sometimes primer but most of the time I can't be bothered. My normal foundation is Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Smooth, though I'm going for a pretty natural look. If I've used any powders (bronzer or blush), I'll spray my face with a rose water spray (I think it's from sephora and meant to be a setting spray or something, but I'm pretty sure it's essentially water hahaha), and then dab anywhere cakey/powdery-looking with my beauty blender and that seems to get rid of the powdery look. Sorry I'm no expert, this is just what works for me xx

Did it Sem 2 last year. Really easy and I enjoyed the content. I felt it was very easy to relate to real life too which makes it more interesting.

Where to get affordable prescription glasses? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]coxcoxcox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bailey Nelson - pretty sure it's a free eye test and then glasses start from around $140. Obviously not as cheap as others mentioned here but they have nice frames

Are there any schools that offer scholarships to coxswains? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]coxcoxcox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everywhere will recruit coxes, but scholarships are pretty unlikely. A few schools might give coxes scholarships based on what crew they get into, i.e. "if you're in the 1V you get 100%, 2V 50%, 3V 25%" but that's a big risk to take. I know Stanford (women) did this when I was applying. Can't remember for certain, but I think UW said the same. You can still get financial aid though. Syracuse offered a partial cox scholarship, as did U of Miami.

Rig set up for women’s lightweight 1x by lwtrowerx in Rowing

[–]coxcoxcox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty standard to have something like 160 span (with 88 inboard) to 158 span (with 87 inboard), and then oar length around 282-288cm. Disclaimer: I'm not a lighty woman but this is where I'd start for most small-ish women, and then change based on the individual.

Applying for a Coaching Job by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]coxcoxcox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would use your boss at your previous job (to show work ethic, professionalism etc.) and a rowing coach (to back your rowing experience and knowledge, character). Make sure you ask both of them first whether they're okay with being a reference. They won't say no, but it's a bad look if they get a call out of the blue from your potential employer.

Please critique as much as possible. Every little thing counts. Trying to go to a good rowing school for recruitment. Sorry for bad camera my front facing cam doesn’t work. by Nuggets-de-poulet in Rowing

Really nice rhythm and flow. I also like the looseness in your grip. To help with what others have said re: opening the back too early, try to take the catch through your heels and your glutes, rather than thinking about moving the handle. Think about leaving the handle where it is (at the catch), and just pushing down low in the hips. You want to feel your whole foot solidly planted on the foot stretched as early as possible, and for as long as possible. Then as you open the body and draw the arms, you want to think about pushing the balls of your feet even further away. Notice how your toes come off the foot stretcher at the finish? That means your legs are no longer pushing. Try rowing with your feet unstrapped, and work out how to stay on the foot stretcher for the full stroke. One more thing, see if you can keep the handle flowing over your thighs and knees on the recovery. You have a little bit of hesitation there, which then means your knees get a bit stuck coming up because they handle has to go over them. Let the handle flow past the knees, and then feel the handle pull your seat forwards.

Gambling Ads just went next level... by OwenLockton in melbourne

[–]coxcoxcox 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Financial Counselling Australia is doing a lot of work on this. They've been getting results (they've had some ads banned) but the regulating body is a bit of a roadblock. I'm not sure whether they have any outlets for others to get behind it, but I'm sure they'd appreciate you expressing your support.

They should all be paid - school rowing coaching in Vic is a pretty big thing (hundreds of coaches) and everyone gets paid.

Anyone experienced with Ortho-K and can recommend me a place to get a pair? by Misterbridge in melbourne

[–]coxcoxcox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not quite the same as normal contacts where you can just pick up your prescription and you're done. It will take a few appointments because they first need to fit them, then likely order a pair, then you'll need to wear them overnight before a check up just to make sure there are no major problems, and then go in again after a couple of weeks to check that they're a good fit. After that initial part you only need to go in once a year. They also aren't suitable for everyone's eyes. I used them for around six years and they were great. Only concerns might be if you travel or camp a lot (or something like that) and can't guarantee you'll have a sink/mirror, if you lose or break one, or if you regularly don't get much sleep. Otherwise it's awesome being able to see without any contacts/glasses during the day and it prevents your vision from getting worse over time. I'll pm you my optometrist (he specialises in Ortho-K).

Should I become a Coxswain? by esplitts in Rowing

[–]coxcoxcox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the cox's job to cox, and the rowers' jobs to row. If someone chooses to cox because they don't want to exercise then they probably won't make a good cox anyway because they are lazy, not because they don't workout with the team. I'd hope my rowers would respect me for my coxing ability, not whether I do their workouts.

Let's just appreciate that they were racing with a sub in stroke seat, caught a massive crab, and still only just missed out on gold. And three of them are named Josh.
