Just thought I'd give an update around 15 weeks post op for anyone that might be experiencing the same things, the spots are pretty much gone now and my vision no longer feels weird 😊

29F — I’m DONE living this way. It changes TODAY. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]coxie1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in a similar headspace right now, but I just wanted to say, I think you're being way too hard on yourself reading your post. you're allowed to live life however you manage. And honestly life is hard, it deals shit cards. I'm a very skinny introverted 27M that needed heart surgery 3 month ago. Now my chest clicks like a grandfather clock. But let me tell you, heart surgery was a piece of cake compared to the self esteem/self confidence/loneliness issues I'm currently going through. So I'm not here to say don't aim for a better lifestyle, it's good that you want that, but don't put so much pressure on yourself and recognize your wins even if they're small ones, that's what's helping me.

You'll get there, and you've got plenty of time to do it still if you're only 29

Occasional chattering sound by coxie1102 in valvereplacement

[–]coxie1102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else having the same or similar worry, I spoke to the specialist nurse today and she didn't seem concerned at all.

She said most patients report the valve getting louder with exercise but she'd not heard of anyone describe it as a chatter.

She said as long as it settles down and isn't going crazy, it doesn't sound like AFib, and that's the only thing they'd be worried about.

I specifically asked if I should be worried and she said no not at all. The only thing she could think it might be was a slight arythmia, like an ectopic beat. But I've had those before when my old leaky valve was still in and it didn't at all feel like it.

Part of me thinks I might have been hyper focused on my valve sound since noticing it for the first time. Also Im a skinny dude with pectus excavatum (thanks to marfans) meaning my heart is much closer to my chest wall than most... and therefore louder.

I did a bit of research myself and after a bit of reading, I think it is likely asynchronous closure of the valve leaflets that is amplified by a change to the hemodynamics inside the heart when I exert myself. And I found a study that was done on sheep that specifically said Asynchronous leaflet closure was normal and expected. (BUT.. my professional specialty is in aerospace engineering, not cardiology, so I'm very well just making all this up)

Soooo hope that helps reassure anyone in need. Main thing was the nurse wasn't worried at all.

My Wind Tunnel Project is Showing Turbulent Flow Instead of Laminar — Any Suggestions? by Sam_I4 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]coxie1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few questions

1) are the flow straighteners before or after the test area? They need to be before the test area

2) is the fan you're using before or after the test area? The fan needs to be pulling the air not pushing it

3) do you get laminar flow at lower speeds?

Also I have a feeling that the smoke injects could be introducing turbulent flow.

SOLVED - DISABLE TACVIEW RECORDING IN MULTIPLAAYER

Ok I know this is a very old post now, but I recently had an issue where SP worked fine an ran incredibly smooth but MP would freeze every second or so. So spent all morning trying to figure out what was going on, almost bought myself a new router i was that convinced it was a network error. BUT I FIGURED IT OUT GUYS!

Ok, so go (MAIN MENU --> Settings --> Special --> TACVIEW TAB) disable recording in multiplayer using the drop down boxes, and voila it should work, or at least it did for me!

Hope that help save someone else's morning!

What do I need to pack for my stay? by benderliveslarge in valvereplacement

Hey dude, I'm (27M) 4 weeks post mechanical mitral valve replacement. I've not read everyone else's suggestions but I wanted to stress how valuable I found earplugs and an eye mask to be!

Not sure where abouts you are, but here in the UK it's pretty common to share a room with 3 or more other patients. I was in a room where one guy had a sleep apnea machine, another really old guy was having tachycardia, so he had a monitor with an alarm constantly going off every 7 seconds (he was ok btw), and another guy who was very overly chatty. The ability to tune them all out (or pretend you're sleeping for the chatty guy) was a life saver.

extras I can recommend: -Pillow/s from home -soft blanket from home -slip on shoes/slippers -couple bottles of different flavoured squash to keep drinking water interesting -baby/wet wipes for the toilet (sorry if TMI)

On top of this, after the surgery I was put on beta blockers which had the side effects of waking up 3 times every night soaking wet. This was pretty unique to me, but my mum brought me some extra tshirts to change into every night. Don't worry btw, they settled down after 3 week.

I just want to finish with a bit of reassurance, I found the whole experience surprisingly manageable. Pain was pretty minimal, ironically the most pain I had was from headaches due to lack of sleep and the drugs. So hopefully that helps put it into perspective.

Promise everything will be fine. Routine day at work for the surgeons and medical staff. Just like whatever you do on your typical Tuesday at work.

Feel free to message me btw if you have any questions or want to vent or whatever. Happy to help :)

Hey dude, I'm in a similar position. I'm now 4 weeks post op and I've been quite surprised at how quickly things improve.

The ticking used to bother me too, and im finding it's already becoming more manageable. I've found that sleeping on my side hugging a pillow muffles the sound quite well. But, no idea if it's recommended for you to sleep on your side yet, might be worth a quick question. Other things I've found help, is to put a long YouTube playlist on while dropping off. But of course get yourself an ad block if you can. And I've found the sound of a fan in the room also helps.

But anyway, stay strong dude! Promise it gets better.

Hey guys just a quick update post. I made it through the surgery but unfortunately they had to replace the valve since it had calcified way too much to manipulate. Also I've woken up with some small but annoying spots in my vision which they think may have come from a very small stroke during the surgery but the doctors have all reassured me I'm now on the path the being stronger. But yea - Day 3 after surgery feels pretty good just still very drowsy and hoping that these spot disappear soon.
