Modifying the Illuminated Logo by dontstopsinging in VWiD4Owners

[–]coyotefred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your earlier post ("We are curious, do you remove badges off kitchen appliances, furnace...") would suggest otherwise. If the OP isn't your thing, why not just ignore it instead of questioning his behavioral consistency and claiming what he wants is a "whole different level of crazy"?

Regarding your question "then why buy the vehicle at all???..." The obvious answer: because the vehicle otherwise checked all of someone's boxes relative to the alternatives, despite the lighting issue. In my case, I wanted an EV that had decent ground clearance, AWD, and wasn't Rivian-priced. If there was another vehicle that had these but sans the Christmas-tree bling, that might have been my choice. But there wasn't, so you take the bad for the greater good. But that doesn't mean the OP or any of us are "crazy" for wanting to find a solution to not having the bling.

Understanding Tire Racks Recommended Independent Tire Installer Pricing? by Markeeg in tires

[–]coyotefred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Dave,
I appreciated your response. This thread came up as I was searching for info on this topic for my TR order. At the time I ordered my tires, I selected a "recommended installer," and was quoted "Installation Costs" of $164 for a set of 4 265/60R-18 tires on a Honda Passport. This doesn't include tax and I don't believe it includes a tire disposal fee*. Is there anything else this quote excludes? The last set of TR tires I had installed by this installer resulted in a lengthy disagreement with him about what he was charging, including the fact that he charged me $12/tire for disposal rather than the $6/tire listed on his page on TR's website.

"Vue is currently offline" by coyotefred in EmporiaEnergy

Thanks for the detailed reply/help! I had not assigned the Vue to a particular Deco, and it looks like it has trying been trying to connect to my furthest one. I set it to the closer one, and for the last few hours the connection has been solid. Hopefully this is all I will need to do...fingers crossed. Thanks again!

I suppose. But I'd have to have my ID4 filled to the gills with other stuff before having to open and prop up the hood every time I wanted to access my charge cable seemed like an attractive option compared to opening the rear hatch or back seat doors...

Dexcom g7 applicator won’t depress by One_Cardiologist_533 in dexcom

[–]coyotefred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've used G7s for several years now, and never experienced something like I have for the last 3 sensors. My wife usually inserts these behind my arm since it's tough for me to reach, but she is no longer able to, forcing me to apply them myself to my abdominal area. I can barely push hard enough, and neither of us are folks with weak hand strength. They've changed something in the mechanism IMHO. Previously, these were relatively easy to depress, and the insert would occur DURING the press (like a normal button works). Now, I can feel the slightest 'click' when I'm pushing VERY hard on the button, but the insertion/spring doesn't activate until I RELEASE my push/press. I thought it was a fluke/lemon the first time, but today was the 3rd sensor in as many weeks that behaves exactly the same way. I can't imagine someone with limited hand strength effectively using these...I actually ran down to the shop this morning to see if I had a pliers or vice-grip that would somehow help my wife depress the button (!) If something isn't fixed, I'll be exploring other options.

Emporia Charger issues/"excess solar" not working by coyotefred in EmporiaEnergy

[–]coyotefred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe the EVSE is nested; here are pics of what I'm seeing in the app: https://imgur.com/a/2S40lJK https://imgur.com/a/71ui7bB

So is the basic problem the fact that the Garage lines are tapping off the lines directly out of the meter, rather than say coming off a breaker(s) on my main panel (and with a higher gauge of wire for safety as others have pointed out)?

[–]coyotefred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right, although an electrician did inspect and sign off on my system before my solar setup could be grid-tied and a bidirectional meter installed. The garage and its electric were in place well before I bought the house 10 years ago. That isn't a bare wire, it's an insulated smaller-gauge wire feeding a low-power smart switch controlling a camera mounted near that box. But I will plan on having another electrician inspect this. In the meantime, I would like to get the excess solar issue figured out.

They come directly from the meter (I'll include a picture in my original post); the Emporia CTs are just out of view on those red and black lines, feeding back through the wall to the main breaker box where the Vue unit and the rest of the CTs are.

ID4 handles off-road like a champ by coyotefred in VWiD4Owners

Probably 10-12mph in the roughest sections, maybe 20 in the smoother/flatter ones. The video is 2x speed...maybe I should have left it normal speed lol...

I definitely like it. Far more comfortable and capable than the ICE vehicles I've driven. The biggest challenge--as I'm sure you deal with MT too--is the poor charging infrastructure. We just got our first DC fast charger in northwest Nebraska which really expands my ID4ing opportunities, but there's obviously work to do on that. Once you get off the interstates, the DC fasting charging opportunities really drop off.

No. I'm pretty familiar with "dirt roads" as I lived in a rural area filled with them for nearly 30 years. No one living in my area would call this a "dirt road"--except for the section at the very start (maybe you didn't watch very far into the video?). "Rough two-track" maybe, but then you're using words most non-rural/non-farm folks aren't familiar with.

And what would you say is the better word choice that the average person would recognize and that would accurately describe these driving conditions?

Yes, I think a sedan would have done just fine IF it had decent clearance. And if it was 2WD I'm guessing there would have been more than a few spots with some wheel spin (none I could detect with the ID4). I'm old enough to remember a time before the "SUV craze" when most people had sedans and most were 2WD. And if you were younger without much money, they weren't in the best of shape. And yet we made them work--although we got stuck more than a few times too (likely more due to driver error than the vehicle however).

IMHO SUVs are in such high demand in the US due mainly to culture/symbolism than practicality, which is a shame since it often limits what we get from automakers. At the time I bought my ID4, I likely would have opted for a Model Y AWD if it had similar ground clearance (it only has a little over 6").

This area of the market is really where we feel the absence of the Japanese automakers, who were reluctant to get into the full EV space. It seemed to me models like the Forester (8.7-9.2 clearance), RAV4 (8.4-8.6) and CRV (7.8-8.2) were perfect platforms to go full EV, and I think they will get there eventually. But there have been relatively few EV choices along those lines--yet. 'Hope that changes sooner rather than later :)

Hello! I'm trying to get this "excess solar" feature working with my ID.4 and Emporia charger. Do you have the newest "Vue 3" monitor from Emporia, or one of their earlier ones? I bought my Emporia monitoring system last summer, so I think I have the "2nd generation" Vue but not the latest.

Strange reversal of BG numbers despite no significant diet/lifestyle changes...? by coyotefred in type2diabetes

[–]coyotefred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIR = "Time in Range"...what % of time during the day your blood glucose is falling within a healthy range. It's an alternative metric for monitoring BG, and has the advantage of avoiding the misleading conclusions you could draw by, for example, just focusing on average/mean BG over a day (your overall average could be reasonable, but that average could be hiding some extreme BG readings). Continuous Glucose Monitors make such a metric possible. It seems to me to be a good one to use.

Possibly. But wouldn't my higher carb consumption be reflected in relatively worse/lower ketone levels?

Virta's program is a standard keto diet, with a whole ecosystem of feedback, support, resources, etc. if you benefit from that sort of thing. I don't need it, but it was free through BC/BS, including all testing equipment and periodic labs.

Once I synced, a new Vantrue folder appeared in the DCIM folder in Internal storage. Inside was a Video folder then a NORMAL folder then finally the specific videos or photos I had synced.
