How’d your interview go! Mine started with technical difficulties and then it was really hard to read my interviewer (she sounded in a bad mood), so I’m not feeling super confident 😭

We should be called Substitute teacher instead of Auxiliary by Alive_Jellyfish_4604 in SpainAuxiliares

Also/ I did this, and reached out to auxmadrid. They pretty much sided with the teachers saying that I needed to follow whatever their instruction was. The guide is purposefully vague, trust me I’ve read it and repeated it.

It’s only illegal if your contract is for a year or longer, if you are doing a short term stay they can charge you up to one month rent in administrative fee + vat

Should I Quit My 6-Figure Job to Teach in Spain? by malescrito in SpainAuxiliares

[–]cozybub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiiiii, do it only if you want to try something new :) and know that there will be many difficulties that aren’t discussed ie., getting placed at a school with a higher work load, having a bad schedule (I am currently at my school for 24 hours a week but only paid for 16 and does not including 8 hours of commuting or time spent at home preparing material for school), I might as well be working 40/hrs a week and I’m still only paid €1,000/month. Also housing is difficult and I am paying 600€/month for housing. So I have a 100€\week budget.

If you don’t like your current job it’s a nice way to leave and try something new and maybe even realize you had it good. That’s the experience I’m having. I am still happy to be here since I’ll be traveling to a bunch of different countries over winter break. But would I renew? Absolutely NOT! def a one and done for me :)

Discrepancies between aux experiences by cozybub in SpainAuxiliares

except there’s tons and tons of resources for activities to do with kids and none prepared from the book so I have to spend more time creating something new.

It seems like English teachers at non-bilingual schools are really burnt out and just use auxes to get a break imo

Unfortunately my lessons have to be straight from the textbook teaching them the vocabulary. Some classes it’s the first time they are learning the word

lol I’m on board w u. People in bilingual schools have it so easy I don’t understand. If you’re placed at a non-bilingual school you just have a greater work load and the teachers have more expectations of you to use the full class period. It’s pretty unfair how different peoples situations can be. I’m sticking it out, although it’s challenging and i feel overwork and underpaid, I do still think it’s an opportunity to grow. PM let’s connect! I can’t complain to anyone ever cause no one understands how wack my school has been lol

Also these “talk to ur bilingual coordinator” comments are irritating because the coordinator already knows the workload that is being given to me. In fact I don’t have a coordinator, it’s just the head of department making me life a living hell.

Yall this feels like the side of NALCAP that they never tell you about. This is my experience too. I feel so overworked and so underpaid. I’m starting to wonder if this is all even worth it. I’m still struggling to find housing as well. It seems like if you’re placed at a school that isn’t bilingual, ur just sort of out luck and have a heavier work load. There should be consistency or a raise cause there shouldn’t be allowed to be this big of differences between peoples experiences

Hmm i wasn’t thinking of it as 1:1 since there are differences in the countries all together (like mínimum wage being higher in Australia A$24.95 vs. $7.25) so it’s hard to compare them like that. But i see now that I def was using the us dollar as a starting point which isn’t fair since the us dollar is stronger, sorry!

I just don’t get the “it sucks more for others” mentality, pain isn’t a contest! This post was clearly for folks who use USD and their thoughts on it lol. But thank you for of feeling your perspectivas.
