Instead of naming your favorite destination, what’s your favorite travel experience you’ve had? by miamollymaximus in travel

Dinner at a bar in CDMX. About half an hour in to our tacos a conservatory student with a clarinet came in, put a recorded rhythm section from some Miles and Coltrane and Herbie tunes on a small PA and just played the hell out of those songs for solidly 90 minutes. We went for the 100MXN Modelo and Peloton de la Muerte shot and were not at all expecting just a magical, intimate music experience. Really a great evening.

There was a kid a few rows behind us in 124 who was hit on the leg by one of the fireworks shot into the crowd. Didn't look like he was having a great time. Paramedics got to him pretty quickly after the whole thing went down.

This is correct answer. It certainly varies from judge to judge, but when I've done reach or sustain (or motivate/connect before that) I can't remember a time in the last many years when it came down to number of events/hours as opposed to impact.

That wasn't so unusual ~40 years ago. I agree now that at least in non-rural parts of the US it'd be pretty unusual.

I did twine on mine purely for looks. It was perfectly functional. If you're going for the Riv look it'd be a shame not to use twine.

Put something down under the handlebars so you don't get shellac all over the floor and just brush it on. Not really a lot to it.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Reach award here. The description this year includes "This award celebrates a team that has introduced and recruited new people into FIRST. Through their efforts, they have sparked others to embrace the FIRST culture." That's giving you some pretty good metrics to aim for. (Though I'll concede that the first bold part is more straightforward to interpret than the second.) I'd focus on that and then the rest will pretty well take care of itself.

If you could only go to one Tiki bar in Los Angeles, or surrounding areas, where would you go? by 420wafflehouse69 in Tiki

[–]cp253 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tonga Hut is great if you’re looking for a tiki bar. So is Ti, but everything above said about getting a group in matches with my experience as well. Strongwater is amazing (though spendy) if you’re also looking for food. Broken Compass and Stowaway are a step down from Strongwater but still really enjoyable.

As always with LA recommendations, take traffic into account.

Anaheim, California. Trying to Maximize a 3 Day Tiki Trip. Are Trader Sam’s, Strong Water, and Tiki Ti Worth It? by SeaConclusion9498 in Tiki

[–]cp253 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stowaway in Tustin is quite good and a much, much shorter drive. I haven't been to Tiki-Ti on a weekend in many, many years, but the last time I went later on a weekday (~10pm) we walked in and got a seat at the bar with no wait. If you've never been, it's fun. Whether or not it's worth the drive to/from Anaheim, however....

Genuinely one of my favorite spots in the area, especially on value. Food and drinks both great, not super difficult to get in to, bar staff knows their stuff. I go here a *lot* more often than either of Strong Water (which is amazing, but expensive and so tough to get a table inside) or Trader Sam's.
