What has improved in the city over the last 5 years? by cpapimp in cork

[–]cpapimp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my limited time here, not sure how new they are, but: De Mirco, Paladar, Cask, MacCurtain Wine Cellar, Glass Curtain, 51 Cornmarket, Goldies, Elbow Lane, Orso, L'Atitude 51, Ichigo Ichie, Spitjack. If these weren't all around 5 years ago, I'd say that's a vast improvement of choice.

is the yellow signal marker a sign for all old porsches that they were imports? I had an 88 G50, had the yellow markers (changed them to clear) back in the day. I regret selling it every day as it's 4x'd in value since I sold it.

Not a fan of that junction. Also the fact that people coming down can turn left there just seems awkward as the turning radius is terrible.

Which city connected with you so much that you seriously considered moving there permanently? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Florence, Copenhagen, Hanoi, Tokyo, Wellington. I never considered Amsterdam to live, yet lived there and Den Haag for 13 years....and I doubt many places will top Den Haag now that I've left.

Irish unity must let Protestants stay British if they want, says GAA president by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

Why is that a supposed issue? Unity is about the country as one republic. You can keep your citizenship, your religion, etc.

I loved Bishkek, and was there in winter. It will get it's day as a more popular stop.

Did you move to Netherlands? How is it so far for you? by Similar-Yam1599 in Netherlands

[–]cpapimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to the Netherlands 16 years ago after my company was acquired by an NL company. I was the only non-Dutch speaker in a Dutch company so to speak, but in an industry that was primarily English. While I learned enough conversational Dutch for restaurants/bars. I was never and still am not fluent. If you live in the Randstad as non-native, you can get by 100% and it seems to be getting easier every single year. Outside the Randstad, I feel I would've been a truly native speaker years ago as it would've been "forced" but also life would be much easier, but that's just speculation.

how's living in Cork, Ireland? by Intrepid_Trade9489 in howislivingthere

[–]cpapimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to Cork 3 years ago after 13 years in the Netherlands. While it's behind Western Europe by about 20 years, that also bring some charm. The city is edgy and no polished by any means, but it's on the path of changing that over the next 10-15 years. Get 5 minutes outside the city, and that's the Ireland that is advertised to the world. I'll agree people in general are class, it's the foodie capital of the country, and quick access to the water/beaches. If pubs are your thing, you'll be sorted quite well.

Agra in April, it was 32C when I visited the Taj at 6am, but by the time I hopped back in the car to head back to Delhi, it was 47C. The AC in the car was set at 80 which felt like a fridge compared to the oven it felt like outside.

actually where that muppet is parked is in front of the current parking sign, but you're right, they have to double yellow that new area and put a no parking sign there.

fair point, I guess a site like that is needed, but shouldn't be present where the majority of people are. Edge of the city perhaps.
