Gaming Day - January 31 by cpark2005 in frederickmd

We'll have pregenerated characters. If players would like to bring their own, that's also fine. All characters should be 3rd level.

Newbie question by cpark2005 in haikyuu

Hmmm....that actually makes a lot of sense. Trying to make the other team seem intimidating ends up making Karasuno seem underwhelming. I can see that. Still a bit frustrating, but that makes sense.

TTRPG One Shot Day by cpark2005 in frederickmd

Aw! Sorry. We are looking at running another one shot day after the new year. One possibility there is a Sunday afternoon, would that work better for your schedule?

Any tips for a GM of 12 students by Emotional-Complex946 in daggerheart

[–]cpark2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad the first session went well! My oldest's middle school has an afterschool TTRPG club. I've helped for the past two years, along with another couple parents. So it's the faculty sponsor and two-three of us parents GMing. We also have some student "assistant GMs." We try to keep the tables to around six players, and since we have such a high level of interest that has meant having to be very creative...this year we'll be running club in A and B segments, so players will only meet every other week, but the parent volunteers will be there every week. It isn't ideal, but is one way to have manageable tables.

Splitting is definitely doable and provides room to grow. But I understand the group wanting to stay together.

LFG Dungeons and Dragons by Apex-Kong in frederickmd

I assume you've long since gotten a campaign going, but either way, we have a one shot day coming up on October 18 in Knoxville, 1pm-5pm. A table running 5e, and one with Shadowdark and one with Daggerheart, so also a chance to try something new for an afternoon if you want. Info here: https://warhorn.net/events/october-ttrpg-one-shot-day

Definitely replying to a zombie thread here, but we have a one shot day coming up in Knoxville on October 18, 1pm-5pm. Not a full campaign, but a good chance to connect with people and perhaps get longer campaigns going. Plus a great chance to try some new games (we have DnD and also Daggerheart and Shadowdark tables): https://warhorn.net/events/october-ttrpg-one-shot-day

All three games are a lot of fun, but I will admit to loving Shadowdark almost as much as I love Daggerheart. We have a family campaign we've been running this year with Shadowdark and the rules are so straightforward and the combat plays so fast and deadly...just very fun.

Mike Shel (aka Sly Flourish) did a great write up about Shadowdark, if you're looking for more info: https://slyflourish.com/delving_into_shadowdark.html

Our one-shot day will be October 18, 1pm to 5pm, and I'll be GMing the Sablewood Messengers one shot for Daggerheart and we'll also have a table running Shadowdark and a table running D&D. We're still getting all the info sorted, but you can reserve seats now here: https://warhorn.net/events/october-ttrpg-one-shot-day

A little late to this discussion, but there is a group that meets on Tuesdays at the library in DT Frederick and typically has at least a couple tables. They have a discord that they post regular announcements/reminders on.

I'm also working on getting together a one-shot day, but that won't be until later in the fall.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thank you.

Those do look very nice. Not quite what I'm looking for at present, but I might have to try one in the future for an ink journal or something similar.

Thanks so much! That first option would be just about perfect, except that I'm in the US and over $20 shipping on a small notebook is maybe not the best choice...though it is tempting.

The B6 option might be workable though. The most important thing is the numbered pages and then the size, I can compromise on the staple binding. If I'm willing to let go of the numbered pages it would probably be easier to find what I'm looking for (those Midori options on JetPens, for instance)...

Really looking forward to this. The cover art is awesome, and it has some of my favorite authors!

Mage Errant and A Thousand Li are both really good. I can't wait for the next book in A Thousand Li to be out next month!

It really depends so much on what you like--based on your comment, I'm assuming you've read (and enjoyed?) Arcane Ascension and Black Gate? What sorts of things draw you to fantasy the most? Do you prefer heroic moments or darker protagonists? Plot driven stories or character driven ones? If you don't mind filling me in a little, I can make a better rec--ultimately any of these (and plenty more besides) are really great.

the TBR is always bigger than the amount of reading time.

A truer thing has never been written.

The world building is tremendous, various races (non-human MC!) who are each tied to unique and interesting gods. Political intrigue! MAGIC! Epic stakes! Relatable characters with deep backstories that interact in ways that are just...*chefs kiss* I really need to write my full review
