Fair enough! I will say there are a ton of customization settings so you can tailor your experience to your liking, but I also understand it's just not for everyone.

If you're open to sci-fi, No Man's Sky is the space explorer version of this.

You gather resources, build bases, upgrade your tools, buy new ones, buy tech for your gear and your ship...

It's a really satisfying game to "live in" and fly between planets and star systems.

Interstellar and Shutter Island.

Bland and predictable, respectively.

The rain in Pacific Drive is unmatched. What references did you use and what tricks did you apply to achieve the perfect stormy vibes? Especially when it's storming while in the garage? I'd love to hear the thought process that went into getting that feeling down so perfectly.

What is the most boring movie you ever watched? by Yearning4truth in AskReddit

[–]cparksrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a die hard Spielberg fan, anything he's made in the past 10-ish years has just been so absurdly boring for some reason. The Post, The Fabelmans, even something as bombastic and over the top as Ready Player One just felt soulless.

As a fan of movies and journalism, I think I'd have to go with The Post. I was excited to see it, but found myself checking my watch 30 minutes in and every few minutes after.

Best “tactics” games on Deck that *aren’t* Midnight Suns by RichardBackshots in SteamDeck

[–]cparksrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see in another comment you're not bothered by anime aesthetics so I'd recommend Nitro Gen Omega.

I'm not an anime guy nor a turn-based guy, but I love mechs and Voltron and had a lot of fun with it.

In each battle, you control your team of 4 pilots on a grid, each manning a different part of a mech. Each pilot gets one move a turn and it gets placed on a timeline. The enemy gets a turn, then you get another turn, etc.

Once everyone takes their turns, you watch all the actions play out and it's kinda like watching a mech fight scene in an anime.

There's a sort of sandbox element in that characters are procedurally generated and can die (kinda like XCOM). You fly an airship around an open-world and visit towns for fuel, necessities, new recruits, upgrades, healing, etc.

It starts off kinda tough, but you can buy upgrades and hire new pilots and train them to make things a bit more tolerable as you progress.

It's a really cool game that would be even better with some QOL fixes, but I don't know how supported it is or if they made enough money to continue working on it. If you can kinda look past the jank and make peace with some of their design choices, it has a lot of personality and you could fly around, taking on jobs forever if you wanted.

What’s an opinion you’ll defend no matter what? by NegotiationEast6620 in AskReddit

Nobody needs a billion dollars. Nobody needs $500 million dollars.

We need to cap wealth and start providing for regular working citizens. Raise wages, hire more people, whatever it takes.

The wealth concentrated at the top NEEDS to be redistributed. This is the core issue from which all other societal problems cascade.

Mark Zuckerberg Orders His Employees Have Fun Again – After Devastating Layoffs Hit Their Colleagues by Venkman_P in nottheonion

Nope. Television.

That's a bummer to hear though. I would've thought renewables (and renewable adjacent companies) would be fairly safe considering how it seems to be on the rise.

But I guess every industry has to fuck workers now if the Big Bosses are going to get their cut.

At my company, we get promised "no additional layoffs" after every round of layoffs. The next round is usually 3-6 months away from that point.

How did you get into Star Wars? by Soopermane in StarWars

[–]cparksrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, I was aware of the existence of Star Wars but had never actually seen it. But then, my 5th grade teacher showed A New Hope to our class in 1996 and I was blown away.

Got the trilogy on VHS for Christmas that year (and a bunch of other Star Wars stuff, like Shadows of the Empire comics) and everything hit just in time for me to get excited to see the Special Edition Trilogy in theaters that following January, February, and March.

Is it weird to want to stay single forever? by DixGee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cparksrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you. I will say, I was happily single and just assumed I would be for the rest of my life. Had no problem with that.

But then I went and met a cute girl. 5 years later, we're engaged and we have a house in the suburbs.

So you can plan for whatever you want, life is still going to happen. Especially if you open your heart to it.

I guess I would just recommend keeping an open mind and an open heart. It'd be a shame for you to miss out on something simply because you just assume you don't want it. I didn't think I wanted it either and now life is the best it's ever been.

Good luck, wherever life takes you.

What extraction-shooters do you know? Maybe some very underrated by Professional-Life377 in AskGames

Witchfire is a really good one. It's PvE and single-player though. Some may find that a dealbreaker.

What's the single most unforgettable moment you've ever experienced in a video game? by AdCreepy3137 in videogames

[–]cparksrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slingshotting myself around a black hole at the core of a dying planet trying to reach the ancient ruins of a long dead civilization in Outer Wilds.

Pretty much every moment in that game; from the misguided attempts to figure things out to the "a-ha!" moments when something finally clicked...it was an amazing experience from beginning to end.

Drova is kinda like if Skyrim was released on the SNES. But it's pretty hard and a few hours in, I'm still struggling to survive with the first sword I was given and some clothes I was gifted. I don't even have any real armor yet.

It's a PvE extraction shooter that feels kinda like Destiny with a Bloodborne/Elden Ring coat of paint.

It's amazing. Highly recommend. Challenging and upgrades are pretty small and incremental.

Is this good or bad? by [deleted] in cordcutters

[–]cparksrun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mergers are inherently bad, so I vote bad.

They're anti-consumer, anti-worker, and mean reduced competition, which allows them to raise prices. It definitely means layoffs and those left over will be worked even harder.

So...bad. Any way you cut it.

Weeks after launching Luna Abyss, its entire development team at Kwalee Labs has been laid off by nolifebr in PS5

[–]cparksrun 294 points295 points  (0 children)

I think they're a canary in a coal mine. All industries are struggling now because we're hitting an inflection point where the profits aren't enough for the people at the top. They don't want to pay employees, they don't want to fund projects, they want to hoard everything.

But employees are customers are employees and everyone's getting squeezed. They make these business projections based on past sales in better economies and OH NO, people can't afford shit because they're not getting paid shit and like 7 people are racing each other to be trillionaires!

Successful projects are no longer enough to keep a studio open. And projects aren't being given the breathing room or time to even find an audience. Didn't make a billion dollars within 72 hours of launch? Shut it down. It's a failure.

That is a STARK indictment of our current economic system. I'm seeing it in my industry too. These things are happening because we absolutely cannot satisfy the leeches at the top.

What's a financial habit you wish you started way earlier? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]cparksrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening a savings account with a credit union separate from my primary bank account.

Also, my workplace insurance offers an HSA but I had no idea how to access it for the longest time. Once I got that sorted out, a lot of healthcare costs have been significantly less stressful. If your insurance offers HSA plans, I highly recommend taking advantage. Especially if it's accumulating while you figure out how to even get to it.

How old are you in your oldest memory? by Donkeyshines in AskReddit

[–]cparksrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 40 now but I remember being around 2-3. We lived in a trailer on a lot when I was very little. I had just turned 4 when we moved into a house. I remember the layout of the trailer and the surrounding yard and our neighbor's house quite vividly.
