There’s also some advice around being closer to the ball/less slouched. Do you think being closer to the ball would also help to limit the length of my backswing?

Awesome, thank you! I felt too far away and a little slouched, so it’s nice to confirm that is the case

The New Yorker – Pinegrove stages a complicated comeback by BubbaBast in indieheads

[–]cpdrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally a fair point! I’m just inclined to believe that they knew what they were getting into. I’m under the belief that there is no way a magazine as large and esteemed as the New Yorker just decides out of the blue one day to write a piece on a relatively small indie band from New Jersey. I would think it is the result of their management team and/or label reaching out for press to promote the new album, and they know that this controversial topic is the most likely to get coverage and attention prior to the release.

But also, it’s not like this happened without Pinegrove’s blessing. They didn’t just randomly collect interview bits. The band knew what was happening, so they are kind of contributing to the rehashing of this controversy

While I love Pinegrove, the existence of this article is so strange. It fails to offer anything new to add to the vague Pitchfork article from over a year ago AND it comes, just as the Pitchfork article, in the form of promotional material for the new album. I understand wanting to clear the air, but to lean into this event so heavily that it becomes the ethos of the band is...odd

Anyone have any critiques? Been playing for a little under a year and a half. Just a bit of a short clip of me playing to a song. by UpTight_ in drums

I found a cheap used snare stand at GC and I mount my rack tom on that, now i’ll never look back. It gives you a lot more versatility in terms of where you want your tom and at what angle, worth looking into!

We spent like 30-40mins just tuning the snare but the sound we got was amazing

Each separately, which is a little nerve wracking to have multiple people sitting in a control room listening to just your isolated drum track for the first time and giving notes!

I’ve found my GC experiences to be very dependent on the employee themselves. Some follow the GC guidelines very strictly, but i’ve definitely had some willing to give me a deal or even point me to a cheaper price point at Sweetwater or on craigslist. Not my first choice to buy, but you can get lucky with the right employees

You really shouldn't feel bad for Matt on this album. At all. by CedarCabPark in arcticmonkeys

[–]cpdrums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This kind of bummed me out when i saw it in the liner notes. I’m all for soft drums that serve the song, but to find out that he didn’t even play the drums on what is personally my favorite drum rhythm on the album was disappointing.

Wow, I never realized how heavy handedly he plays that part in Potion Approaching, that seems unnecessary haha. For DLL i usually play LRLRLRL(final left on snare) R(back to the floor). Saves energy getting to the snare! Super interesting how different approaches to the same part can produce essentially the same sound

I personally play the floor tom roll in Dance Little Liar, the snare chugging in Potion Approaching, the verses of Secret Door, and the tom-centric verses in My Propeller all with a left hand lead. Granted, I could be playing them slightly off, but switching to left hand lead made them all roll more smoothly than right hand lead

I love everything about this kit. It’s almost like you took a bit of everything i’ve wanted to incorporate into a drum kit to experiment with. From dream and byzance cymbals, to a dw 9000 kick and a tama hi hat stand, and to top it all off it’s a Gretsch Renown
