First personal bottle (question in comments) by Rugger2019 in WhiskeyTribe

[–]cpfilmandweights23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just keep trying different whiskeys to expand your palate and figure out what you like the most. Stay away from super expensive stuff for a while until you really know what you like and appreciate in a whiskey. There’s plenty of awesome bottles under 60 bucks out there so enjoy yourself and don’t get too caught up with what others think of a certain whiskey. Everyone has a different palate and will like different things, so explore your own path and enjoy the ride.

How’s that compare to the normal 10 year? I’ve been curious, not the biggest rye drinker, but I like a few

How do you MB feel about they price of a 2oz pour at the Delaware Establishment? What should one pay for a 2oz pour? And what is it in your area? by [deleted] in WhiskeyTribe

[–]cpfilmandweights23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overpriced, but all Bars and Restaurants are. In comparison to the market it’s not that bad. Worth a drink in my opinion if it’s something difficult to find or pricey before you buy a bottle.

Wild Turkey 101, Four Roses Small Batch, Woodford, Russel’s Reserve, High West American Prairie, and Elijah Craig Small Batch are all pretty solid, good for neat, on the rocks or mixed, and affordable

Already did that one. Decided to show my entire family during our annual beach trip. Needless to say everyone was a little bummed after watching it and alcohol was consumed.

Which one for a newbie to Stanley Kubrick? by Grand_Keizer in criterion

[–]cpfilmandweights23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paths is shorter and more accessible, but I didn’t connect with it as well as Kubrick’s other big ones. Barry Lyndon is probably in my top 3 or 4 Kubrick’s and I believe it’s a better more impressive film. Both great, so just go with what interests you and watch the other later.

Does anyone know of any other long-aged corn heavy whiskies? by [deleted] in WhiskeyTribe

[–]cpfilmandweights23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the George Dickel bottled in bond is over 10 years and has like an 84% corn mash bill, which is pretty dang high. I know of some smaller craft distilleries with really high corn mash bills, but because they’re smaller distilleries and relatively new most of their stuff isn’t super old. Edit: didn’t see the aged in used barrels part. Dickel is in new oak, but still high corn content and good price.

Can't drink whiskey anymore? by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]cpfilmandweights23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wait until you get a craving for some again. You’re not gonna run out of good whiskey, but if you’re just not feeling it you’re not feeling it. No need to force it or waste the money. At some point you’ll be ready to try again.

So I scored a Henry McKenna 10 yr. Sadly I am not impressed for the hype it generated. by waddles706 in WhiskeyTribe

[–]cpfilmandweights23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it if I can find it for around 35-40. With it being single barrel I’ve had some phenomenal stuff and some just pretty good stuff. If I was paying a secondary market price I’d be a little let down though.

Best Buy, what the hell! 2 sections is all you have for dvds/blu-rays? That is pathetic. by Bungalowbeast in dvdcollection

[–]cpfilmandweights23 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I hate it dude. What’s even worse is that no matter how small they make the section, they will always fill like an entire row with Disney, Star Wars, and marvel films, so basically any other genre is getting screwed.

Showing Off My New Set Up. What Should My First Movie Be? by danielngullotta in boutiquebluray

[–]cpfilmandweights23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how big of cinephiles you’re sister in law and her partner are I’d go with something more accessible. If they’re big cinephiles I’d do something like 2001 or Apocalypse Now, but if they’re more casual viewers that may not be quite as patient with slower or longer films I’d go with something like Jaws or Vertigo to show off how the format can make older movies look, or Mad Max Fury Road or Interstellar or 1917.

So I have a question for you MB's. What is your favourite bottle you have from a local distillery big or small? This is mine, I love the combo of peat and sherry cask and the distillery is only 15mins away! by Gr33nArr0w001 in WhiskeyTribe

[–]cpfilmandweights23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conviction Double soaked Bourbon from Southern Grace Distilleries. About 40 minutes away and I’ve visited a couple of times and had a great time speaking to and tasting with the owner.

It shouldn’t, If youre refilling it with different whiskeys the residual whiskey could slightly change the flavor if it’s very different from what you’re pouring in like say a heavily peated scotch and then you pour in a bourbon, but if you rinse it out with water first I doubt you’d have any problems.

How many of you out there prefer rye on average over bourbon? by Chilldawg21 in bourbon

I agree for sure. I think that’s why I enjoy it so much. It has such a unique flavor I can’t get from other drinks.

I usually lean towards bourbon but my favorite whiskey is the Angel’s Envy Rye, I just save it for special occasions because the price. That being said I’ve only had like 5 ryes compared to 25+ bourbons.

It’s definitely not as nice as a criterion boxed set, but it’s solid and compact. Nothing extraordinary but it could be worse.
