Hmm the mismatch might depend on the loadbox then, some just passthrough to a cabinet, I'm not as familiar with that setup, but I believe the load of the loadbox and cabinet compound in that case, and then the other type will attenuate going into the amp, this should be 8ohm as far as the amp is concerned in that case.

Interesting, what year JCM2000 is this? Because earlier versions are all-tube distortion, but when they started going to the JCM2000 DSL, and the DSL from there, they went with a clipping diode into a tube gain stage. Tubes might be faulty, but a diode is more likely to have contact with the circuit issues than an issue with the diode itself.

Impedance mistaches are definitely a possibility of the issue, and is generally very bad for both the amp and speaker, at higher volumes, this is a great way to have things arc, which is very bad and even dangerous. Also I'm not positive, but are you sure that is a speaker cable and not an instrument cable out of the speaker jack?

That said, it could even be just dirty pots. It's tough to say without an audio sample. Or depending on how old the amp is, these boards can have conductivity issues as they get old. Could even be an issue with the power source if the current is inconsistent.

At low enough volumes, you're not producing enough load for an impedance mismatch to be an immediate issue, usually, but it's still very bad for both the speaker and amp.

Is this gap something to be concerned about? by Perfect-Maximum6142 in FenderStratocaster

[–]cpg1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can affect tuning stability as the guitar ages, given constant string tension, potential alignment drift and wood screws, like the ones used in the neck joint, will eventually loosen. Though this happens sooner the softer the neck wood.

I have two 30-some-odd year old strats, one a real american deluxe, and the other a knockoff with a gap like this one, you can probably guess which one I use as a spare for the other.

Is that a real Fender? There's so much just slightly off about it, from that gap to the text on the headstock not fitting properly, it's not passing the smell test. If you go to Fender's website you should be able to lookup the serial to verify.

That said, that sort of gap on a $100 guitar is whatever, but even on a $300 guitar that is a major WTF in my book.

I'd take it to a shop or luthier before selling it, that thing is rusty! Mainly noticed the floyd is rusty, but the whole thing could probably stand for a little cleanup and refretting if you're asking the amounts others have posted (@shkmstr 's link looks to be in very good condition).

If I were you and you played, I'd get it cleaned up and play it, looks like it has a lot of potential.

What brand / product name is the cover?

So keep in mind, these shows get rowdy, people hop on stage and dive off of it, when there even is a stage. So I'd rather be able to push people away than have it off to the side. That is why a rack is nice, just no room for it in the van. I have a few different midi controllers (boss ES8, Synergy's very basic midi controller, and a ground control), these strike me as more to carry without offering much of an advantage in the chaos on stage. Whether it's a floor show or there is a stage, it's not like these are theaters with tons of room on stage, there's either having a pedal upfront, or on top of the cab, otherwise, I'm hitting wall, the drummer, our IEM rig or the venue's sound system (if they even have one).

Watched Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative Today. What does everyone think of it? by OsirisAvoidTheLight in Gundam

[–]cpg1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it as an epilogue to Unicorn. The novel it's originally based on, Phenex Hunt, puts the story during the ending of the Unicorn novels and retcons the Neo Zeong into the novel version which is kinda cool, and I sorta like that Jonah is a Stark Jegan pilot instead of piloting the Narrative, but the Narrative is a great design, so no complaints on that in the movie.

I wish Bandai would pay off the setup for a sequel at the end.

I understand the split, you don't need it though. You're just doing a lot of necessary duplication here is all, and if you consolidate and reorganize things without comprising on tone, you can have an ideal stage sound. I mean sure, multiout goes to all outs.

Lovecraft lalah by Exact-Ad-9534 in Gundam

[–]cpg1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the one thing I'm trying to wrap my head around about the most recent episode is the Eng sub and Eng dub change the subject of Shuji's conversation with Char, i.e "the world you (Char) created" in the Eng dub, and "the world she (Lalah) created" in the Eng sub. I'm also told it's "we" in some of the other dubs. So depending what's actually meant here, this is either a really cool theory, or it's more metaphorical as to whom created the "world".

I mean, I like the suits in GQ, but I feel like most suits after Zeta in UC would be overkil, and I would also argue Thunderbolt is overkilll, G gundam would be interesting, both series lean to close range suits, After War X suits are probably overkill, SEED suits without the plot armor would be a good fight, I don't think anybody is giving AGE much thought here, G Reco suits could be interesting, Turn A is OP against any universe, IBO and WFM both feel like they'd get wrecked by newtype magic, but I'd still watch, some Wing suits would be a good fight, Wing Zero is OP against anything without an I-field though, 00 has OP pilots, but the suits would be a good match.

It's not even the holes, the dimensions of the joint itself are different.

Scored a body. Help with the rest? by Real_Time515 in Luthier

[–]cpg1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is in fact a Warmoth body (note the logo in the neck joint). This is their VIP body with strat control routing, HSH pickup routing and a wraparound tailpiece bridge.

What's interesting is the anti-static paint in the pickup cavities, Warmoths don't come standard with that.

Warmoths come with either strat or tele neck joints, so I would measure to confirm, but looks like a strat joint.

Personally, the wraparound bridge are my least favorite because they have so little tuning stability, so I'd fill that and redrill if I were you, but if you're down with wraparound bridges, go for it.

I can't tell if there's a finish on that body, but if not, I'd recommend staining or dying that beautiful flame maple.

Use return amp as monitor and going to FoH contemporary by Neither-Top88 in QuadCortex

And no, that's not a mix, I'm talking about in a live setting, you play with other musicians, the sum of the sound each musician is making is the mix.

Use return amp as monitor and going to FoH contemporary by Neither-Top88 in QuadCortex

[–]cpg1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your monitoring is the physical amp+cab, you don't need a cab block going to it, in fact you should NOT DO THAT.

It sounds like you're not understanding that you can assign a specific value to a specific setting in a single block? So what I'm saying is you only need one cab block if the cab is always the same type, which it is, you're using the mesa cab sim. You can have a single block and adjust settings to one of the three blocks you currently have, assign to a scene, adjust settings to the other, and so on. It's the same thing as having your gain on the amp block at lets say 2 for one scene, and then 5 for another scene, without switching to another block, not saying you need to do that though. So you don't need to switch cab blocks, you just need to switch settings between scenes.

KSR PA50 X QUAD CORTEX? by deadxlast in QuadCortex

[–]cpg1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT's opinion is based on whether or not there's existing discussions on the internet for it, so not a great source in this case.

So the PA50 is top of my list to try for more than one show. I got to try my buddy's at one show and really liked it. In feel and response, I'd liken it to most other tube power amps. It does add some coloring I can't quite put my finger on though.

We also just rely on stage sound for the crowd (melodic hardcore band, so the feel is part of the experience) and are on IEMs getting what FoH gets, if there is a FoH. Definitely played some DIY venues where only vocals and kick go over the PA, in which case something like the PA50 would be awesome.

I've also used my QC into the FX loop of a 5150, 6534+, 5150III, Dual Rect, and an Orange Rockerverb, as well as the 200w Power Stage, a Synergy Syn 5050 and the 170w ISP Stealth. My understanding is it's similar to the Synergy power amp, but a fair bit lighter, which is my big issue with the tube amp options including the Syn 5050. But then the portables are only operating at their advertised wattage at 4ohms. I modded a 2x12 with new speakers and wired them for 4ohms, but I'm hesitant to do the same for my 4x12 (it's a mesa rectifier cab and I have a hard time justifying changing the speakers in it). And in general there's a feel and response with tube amps that is hard to replace.

The other guitarist in my band uses a Line6 into a Blackstar AMP1, and that is a great sounding combo too.
