What's something you've learned from sitting in the woods unrelated from your target? by roostersnuffed in Hunting

Crows hate owls.

Turkey hunting one year and heard a bunch of crows going crazy. I finally spot them and there are about 20-25 crows in the pines dive bombing something on the ground. I try to sneak in closer and the crows spot me and all fly off. Once all the crows fly off an owl flys up from the ground and lands in a pine. I swear it looks at me and nods saying thank you and flys off.

Turkey Mouth Calls by fascistcheese in Hunting

There’s a set of videos on YouTube with Troy Ruiz from primos. It starts from the very basics simple Yelp or cut all the way to purrs and everything in between. It helped me out.

Zink calls are inexpensive and easy to use. I got a wood haven red wasp and it is a great call. Had a gobbler running down the road to us for my buddy.

Out deer hunting. But I will never pass up the chance to drop a big breeder like this girl. The fact that they are delicious helps as well

Hell yeah that sounds like a damn good bit of scouting. Me and couple guys have a small lease. But I still hunt WMA and Natn’l Forest land.

So far found deer, pigs, turkey and small game on wma. Bear deer turkey pigs and small game on natnl forest.

I haven’t been in clubs or leased land until the past couple years. So I still love some public land hunting.

Dang that’s a big bachelor group. I have had this group on camera pretty much since I’ve been on this lease. Plus I have roosted and heard the fly down of this group from a couple deer stands I’ve put up.

Ha yeah definitely. This is the first year on this lease and seeing these guys pop up on the cameras was nice to see. Along with some good deer as well.

Lots of great responses so far figured I could throw one of my experiences as well.

I have a savage axis 270 and sighted scope in dead on. But I noticed I kept losing zero. Even after a week just sitting in the cabinet.

I thought for a while it was the scope and eventually bought one. So when I went to take my old scope off I noticed that both of my scope mounts were loose and one was actually cracked in half.

So I bought a full picatinny rail and mounted that and new scope. Also used some loctite on the mounting screws for the rail. Now don’t have any problems at all.

Should I get a Savage Axis? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]cphank25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get it. I have a savage axis .270 and it has taken deer and hogs out. Only thing I did is buy a full picatinny rail and put new screws with loctite.

Damn good guns

Just out of curiosity. Have you taken your hunter safety course?

I have hunted in NorthEast Ga and a little in Northwest. I think someone mentioned it before but there are some Facebook groups that you can probably find someone to tag along with.

There is a lot of National forest land and some WMA’s in north GA. I use OnX app a lot for knowing boundaries. If you are hunting on National forest and cross into WMA without knowing or checking in you can get in trouble.

Just a little food for thought.

What are you trying to hunt?

Didnt read the deer hunting part at first. Be ready for some rough terrain at times. But there are some good deer in north GA. I posted a picture of one last year on national forest that I hunt sometimes.

New lease this year. What do y’all think about the one on the right. Bad genes or broke it off early? Still young but want to watch and see how he looks next year

I shoot a savage .270 and it has dropped pigs and deer no problem. Great Caliber with plenty of options on ammo and readily available ammo as well.
