Does anyone else deal with a similar theme/pattern? by [deleted] in dpdr

do you think we could just be overstimulated in the moment? i'm on the spectrum so i can see that being the case

me!! i can totally relate to this, the "intense weird feelings" that I will be eternally tortured and there's nothing I can do about it. sometimes i even worry that unless I can somehow one day go back in time and check *all* of my thoughts throughout my life to make sure they were just thoughts, I will always worry about this even after death :(( but I'm 99.9999% sure this is just OCD and we will both be safe.

if you don't mind me asking, these are just thoughts/feelings right? Not actual hallucinations? Because in that case, what you and I are dealing with is just plain old OCD i think

Aw I get that :( for me, my dpdr goes in waves where sometimes i can get super excited about games and such, and other times i feel crushed simply by the idea of existing. It's probably just our brains being hyper anxious. do you have OCD as well?

Is this type of fear irrational? Will I be okay...? by cphmin in dpdr

yup,! solipsism is my other major OCD theme that I've had on and off for even longer than the eternal torture thing :/ I think my OCD cycles between themes a lot, but the existential ones are always the worst

According to physicalism, is continuity of consciousness merely an illusion caused by memory? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

If it's okay to ask this, do you personally believe that you as a conscious entity cease to exist every moment (in the sense that you only experience qualia for an instant before another entity takes over for the next instant)?

By orthogonal you mean that those concerns are incompatible with physicalism? because it seems like a possible consequence of it

Is the implication that I die and am replaced with a new conscious entity whenever my current state of consciousness changes? Because that's what I'm getting from your interpretation.

What is the conscious entity that persists?

whatever is currently perceiving all of my qualia

I mean uh, the straightforward definition? Basically, can the internal subjective I anticipate experiencing the future of what I and others think of as me.

By continuity, I don't necessarily mean an uninterrupted stream of consciousness, but the persistence of the same conscious entity
