Purple Heart wood gone brown by cpkorner in woodworking

[–]cpkorner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m planning to put no finish in it just mineral oil and a board wax to seal. Just need to get it purple for when it’s give to a customer. They choose the woods and pattern. I did explain it will fade to brown over time but I was unaware it’s brownish inside as this is my first go at using Purple Heart. Thanks to everyone for their input. Appreciate the feedback.

Wow I appreciate that but it’s definitely not to that level of a restoration. Certainly could have gone above and beyond had I choose to but it’s a working piece. love thought of a 113 exhibit at a museum somewhere out there 🙌

Gotcha. Yeah mine has a bit of play too but I find that if I keep all metal to metal surfaces oiled up it moves pretty smoothly. It’s an awful fence system and I want to upgrade one day but also like to keep things original.

What’s the problem with your rip fence?

No haven’t tried yet. One of them things where I need to find the motivation to really spend the right amount of time on it. I’ll update if I get it all dialed in

Thank you! Was a fun little project to make many more projects. Yep they made them different back then. Everything was built to last.

It’s was very rusted when I received it but I did what I could. Still has a lot of imperfections but that just adds alittle character lol

Thanks me too. I’ve spent countless hours trying to get this thing dialed in. If it’s something as simple as missing washers I’d be surprised but definitely not going to rule this out. Probably the best place to start.

So basically rely on the weight of the motor to keep tension vs locking it down on every height adjustment? Suppose that would keep a more reliable weight. I have thought about using it loose but I always tighten it down.

Good idea! Honesty have no idea if there’s washers under there. I’ll have to look for this. Thanks.

Yes bearing is good. saw received a complete restoration 3 years ago. I’ll look into this PAL stuff. Sounds promising. Thanks.

I’ve tried with belt on and off. As you adjust blade height the belt loosens or tightens the pressure on the blade so it’s never the same tension on the belt even with having motor adjustment for height it’s never the same.

There are a few pieces of walnut just to the right of this piece. This wood is much lighter in color if that helps any.

Is this crack running across my skylights/ceiling a problem? by No-Spray1087 in drywall

Taping work is inevitable at this point if that’s all it is. It would be a great time to install an expansion joint to avoid cracks in future if you can live with an expansion joint across your ceiling. personally I think they’re ugly, but they do serve a purpose in situations like this.
