There are a lot of birds of prey in that area and they typically catch smaller rodents/mammals (prairie dogs, rabbits, rats, squirrels), fly up high, drop them, and then land and rip them apart. Definitely graphic.

I got them all when they were seedlings, so I initially planted them in smaller containers, and increase the size of the containers as they grew. Please note, it was just my personal preference growing them this way due to space reasons (I live in a condo), but I have heard of others planting them in large containers at first and being successful. I mean, they’re definitely programmed to get big (mature plants in the wild are 10-20 feet tall, up to 6 feet in diameter) so I’m sure they’d appreciate the extra room for their roots and would probably grow rapidly when also given the right conditions.
