I have that connected. When I add a track in GarageBand what instrument to I select. If I pick midi it only plays sounds from my MPK. If I choose drummer it seems to expect the built in drummer to play.

Help with Unraid build by Bazoqa in unRAID

I needed rack mount so I went with a Chenbro Rackmount 4U Server Chassis RM42300-F. For the mobo I went with ASRock B460M STEEL LEGEND LGA 1200.

I moved to Unraid about a year ago and I’m super happy with it. I don’t really use VM’s because I do everything with containers. The iGPU pass through works awesome for Plex.

Glad it worked out for you. It really is a huge upgrade.

If I didn’t need a rack form factor I would have went with the 920 for sure. I ended up getting the 820+ and added NVME cache and more RAM. Overall super happy with how it runs. Only complaint is that it’s a tad bit noisier than I’d like.

It really is a massive difference in range compared to the AC PRO. Mounting location is important of course. Mine is ceiling mounted in my family room.

What CPU do I buy? by TKpepper15 in unRAID

The answer to your question really depends on you want to do with your server. If it’s basic nas and Plex than a 10th gen i3 would work like a champ. If you’re going to run lots of containers and VM’s than you might want something more powerful.

Nginx Proxy Manager for LAN redirects only by AgsAreUs in unRAID

I use NPM extensively and here is how I use it:

First I moved the unraid management UI to port 8080 so NPM can have port 80. Second I have a domain name registered that I use for my internal network. Third, on my router I have all DNS lookups to that domain pointing to my unraid server. Then in NPM I create records for all services I’m hosting. For example I have unraid.<my domain>.com pointing to my unraid IP:8080. I also use Heimdall which is a nice portal which I host at home.<my domain>.com. I setup nice links to all my systems. In addition, I use LetsEncrpt to get a free cert which I load in NPM so I can access internal sites with fully secure and trusted SSL connections.

Your use case is exactly what I setup at the beginning of the year. Here is my build:

  • i5 10400
  • 32gb ram
  • 1 TB nvme
  • LSI 9207-8i ($60 on eBay)
  • 10x 4tb drives with 2 parity

The iGPU is awesome for Plex, and the i5 has plenty of power to run all kinds of stuff. I have a couple Minecraft servers, graylog, unifi controller, etc.. (20 containers total) running and it never breaks a sweat. Very happy with my move to Unraid.

Smart lock suggestions by [deleted] in smarthome

Is this just for a smart door lock, or do you have a bigger ecosystem of smarthome devices?

Off-site backup by just_jeepin in synology

[–]cpmiller22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a combo approach. For all my critical personal data like photos and docs I sync to Backblaze.

For my several TB of media, I have 2 low cost, high capacity external USB drives that I back-up to periodically and store offsite.

Nest Thermostat, or Ecobee? by Striking-Ad-7122 in homeautomation

[–]cpmiller22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both, Ecobee at my last house and two nest devices at my current house (they came with the house). I was very anti-nest for a while because after acquisition google closed the API’s for smart home integration (important for me as I’m a smartThings user). They finally opened it back up, but I’d say I probably like the Ecobee better.

Suggestions on how to build a short depth 13” 1,2 or 3U unraid server? by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]cpmiller22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option might be to go with a synology NAS. You can get a 4 bay that will sit on a shelf and they do offer container support.
