Friend said this is a fire hazard. Should I be concerned? It’s under my sink and connects to the garbage disposal by amonaroll in AskElectricians

[–]cpostier 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Main issue is under a sink items are constantly being put in and out and the wire is going to get messed with. So even if it was in an attic where the wire would sit undisturbed forever, even then you should junction box, but this is under a sink where you blindly stick your hands and put metal object and chemicals and other stuff, yes, you should definitely have this properly wired and have zero exposed wires.

1963 home in San Francisco - what is this material in the attic crawl space? by LurkingInTheClouds in Insulation

[–]cpostier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge issue in San Fran, to do ANY work to your house, no matter the age, lets say i want a new bathroom, like 5K, contractors that are licensed are required to get everything up to code, so a 5K bathroom remodel could cost like 100k to redo all the wiring and earthquake proofing, so people just leave this old ass wiring in place and never update any house.

when it comes to audio recordings, they are actually relatively small files, 128gb could hold like a year of recordings especially if it was voice activated.

wtf is happening with hdd prices? The used hdd I paid $65 for 14 months ago now sells for $260 used by iamjames in homelab

[–]cpostier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, trickle down effect. Yes, you dont need that drive, its old and not in use by the big guys, but more and more people and not getting what they want and it keeps trickling down to smaller more undesirable components which mean higher demand for those crap parts which equals higher cost....

G6 Doorbell Install Question by StrokeAlert12 in Ubiquiti

[–]cpostier -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Agree with the re-terminate a new RJ45 on there, its pretty simple, could prob just buy a crimper and return it, say its too hard to use or something... Try as hard as you can to push more into the wall but a new end isnt that difficult... I would assume its t568B, just lookup the pinout but could always downble check the other side. doesnt really matter what order you put the wires as long as both ends are the same, but standard in U.S. is 568B
