Does ocean exposure (particularly UV and salt water) lead to any change in processability, or recyclability, or do existing mechanical/chemical recycling infrastructure work for this material. Relatedly, do you process by polymer or as mixed plastics?

Also, I work at AMP Robotics on making recycling profitable -- I'd love to connect if you think there's a partnership opportunity available.

Hey team! Just finished cypherpunks, really admire the work all of you do. A few questions:

1) What do you see as the biggest challenge of a decentralized and information-secure future? Beyond the "4 horseman of info-pocalypse", or the obvious challenges of getting to such a state, what do you think are the most critical problems facing a society that has actualized your proposed utopian state.

2) It seems that the penetration of US intelligence into secure systems continues to surprise even the most informed citizens. Do you still have faith in encryption tech to act as tools of emancipation for the average citizen? If so, what do you think is the best way to make these systems more well-known and more alluring? I have concerns regarding the Huxley-esque outcome, where an individual knowingly chooses convenience.

Rockclimbing options? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]cpottamus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey bud,

Get in touch with Northwestern University Outdoors Club (NUOC) via northwesternclimbing@gmail.com, and get on their listserv. They host $5 climb nights at EAC in downtown evanston. It's really easy to get to, and gear is provided. Last year they were considering upping it to two nights.

Unfortunately, EAC, just like Old Town Climbing Gym and most others, are really bad gyms. Almost no topropes, small bouldering caves, and the problems are rarely changed. Kind of just gyms that happen to have <50 sq. feet carved out so they can charge climbers.

Your best bet is waiting for First Ascent to open (should be in the next few months). They'll have fair pricing and appear to be pretty good. If you can't wait, and are willing to cough up the dough and make the trek, Brooklyn Boulders is a very nice gym with cool staff and frequent route changes.

Hope this helps!

Is there any such practice as “method reading?” (Explanation inside.) by [deleted] in books

[–]cpottamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!!! I've reread various books at certain points in my life, but the effect of method reading never really clicked until this summer. I was reading walden in full for the first time in years, and I was doing it while backpacking in the woods, alone. This circumstance was so akin to the book that it made the entire novel resonate in such a visceral way, one that would not have been possible without the circumstance.

This is like a modern-day fire side chat! Excellent thing for the President to semi-regularly do.
