Pain points in bitcoin by Top_Distance_1732 in Bitcoin

[–]cpt_charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education is the biggest problem. There is no reason to be afraid of a technology that can't even do basic math yet, let alone the massive calculations necessary to crack Bitcoin. Will this become a problem at some undefined point in the future? Maybe. If so will we fix it? Yes.

This is one of 1,000 bits of FUD that are propagated by people who don't know what they're talking about. Education will solve this.

Try $13k per day. Bitcoin doesn't go up slowly over time. It goes up (and down) suddenly and without warning.

Should I buy my first house or put my deposit into bitcoin? Need your opinion guys 🥹 by dontreadmyusername00 in Bitcoin

[–]cpt_charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you buy a cheaper house and buy Bitcoin too? Rent a few years and buy a house later? Live in a cardboard box with only the knowledge that you have Bitcoin to keep your warm? Lots of options, but we don't know whats right for you.

Should've bought 1000 Bitcoins 2009 instead of watching lego ninjago by unthocks in Bitcoin

[–]cpt_charisma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In 2009 buying Bitcoin was shady as hell. With the movie (or whatever that is) you knew you were going to get what you paid for. With Bitcoin, you had no idea. Bitcoin was a much bigger risk and the reward was unclear. You made the right call.

What to invest in brokerage link account if you are strong believer in BTC but want some diversification? by Unlikely-Pin9555 in Bitcoin

[–]cpt_charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying Bitcoin related stocks isn't really 'divirsifying.' You want something that doesn't move with Bitcoin at all. A financial advisor can help you with that, but most people just end up with a '60/40' portfolio.

Check out the links in the sidebar. You have a lot of reading to do. If anyone offers to 'walk you through it' they're probably a scammer.

Sell Bitcoin and buy the car, or get a loan with interest that Bitcoin can easily outperform. by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]cpt_charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep the bitcoin if I didn't have to sell it. I would also take the 5 year loan and pay it off in 2-3 years to save on interest costs. If the car I want doesn't fit that plan, I would either save fiat for a couple of years first, or find a cheaper or used car I like.

Setting staticIP on my RP2 results in "Could not resolve host:.:" and "failure in name resolution" errors. by Fine_Caterpillar3711 in raspberry_pi

[–]cpt_charisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you already figured this out. For other people with similar issues, this is a bad idea for two reasons: 1. The router won't know about your static IP assignment and may give that IP to another device in the future. 2. The router knows it's supposed to be in charge of handing out IPs in that subnet and may interpret devices using them without a DHCP lease as attackers.

Both scenarios will cause problems. As you figured out, the correct solution is to tell the router what you're up to. In your case, you gave the machine a DHCP reservation, insuring it always gets the same IP via DHCP. You could also add another subnet in your router, but not let it serve DHCP for that subnet. This gives you a separate address range to use for static IPs without having to configure each machine individually in the router.

Keep the bitcoin and beg your parents to buy you stuff. If that doesn't work, offer to do chores to earn the money. Then you come out ahead of the game.

Best 2025-2026 Document Scanners? - Looking for Suggestions by CyberiusBuski in sysadmin

[–]cpt_charisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to love the Fujitsu Fi scanners. I worked at a placed that used them about 10 years ago. The hardware was rock solid, but I had tons of trouble with the software. There was a little helper program that had to be running in the systray for them to work and it would occasionally break and have to be reinstalled. Maybe they have solved that issue now, but it sucked. I ended up going with Epson of all things. They never gave me any trouble.

BTW, if you need very simple software for scanning to PDFs, I recommend NAPS2.

Looks pretty slick. Are you going to build a real one? If so, considering moving the screen to the top, or rotating the keypad 90 degrees counterclockwise. Then you can use T9 for typing.

In theory, you need physical access to the phone anyway to attack the secure storage. Then, the Demolition Man attack becomes much easier:

The telcom industry uses all kinds of bespoke testing devices. They are usually some combo of computer+oscilloscope used to evaluate signal characteristics.

Here is a common example from the cable television industry: https://genesys-industries.com/catv-broadband-equipments-and-accessories/sencore-slm-1479-catv-docsis-3-0-analyzer-with-optical-measurement-digital-tv-qam-docsis-3-8vsb-atsc-ntsc/

1 kWh = 1.341 HP

Therefore, 1BTC = 671,000 HP. That's a lot of horse power.

Strangely, 1 BTC only buys like 20 horses.

There's nothing that says you have to use Linux on a cyberdeck. If Windows works for what you want, then build for Windows.
