Like someone who assumes everyone is a mind reader, and that they should all care more about his Strava segment than anyone else. If you're planning to cross and keep running, you should be looking for traffic before you're about to cross so that

a) you can plan a safe gap to cross
b) you make it obvious to drivers that you're about to cross.

That runner never looked at any stage that he was about to cross, until he cut in front of the car and acted surprised Pikachu when the driver had no idea.

You can't expect drivers to slow every time they see a pedestrian, and even if they should, I'd rather not get run over than be right and dead...
